how to edit equipment icons
« on: October 17, 2015, 08:22:45 pm »

I couldn't find anything suited in the CC Tools thread so I have to ask:

How can I edit equipment icons? If p.e. I want to give some armor new textures or edit potion flasks where can I find the icons (the one from the shop and inventory windows) and how do I open them into a format that I can work with in PSP?

If I were you, I would start looking through the neverwinter vault entries for custom content guides. I would also specifically download THE "Custom Content Guide v3". What you want is very specifically covered in that manual. I think this is the best place for anybody wanting to mod NWN to learn the basics. After that, we can discuss harder topics, like changing how many items you can associate with an item type, etc.

You'll find that the textures in NWN are either DDS or TGA. TGA easily converts to true BMP and imports into most graphics platforms. DDS can be unpacked into multiple sizes of TGA. Just be sure to export back to TGA with proper alpha channels and full color, or even go so far as to compile DDS before you release new content.

If you need to work with PLT, I personally don't use this, but there is a PLT plugin for GIMP. To view TGA/DDS in windows explorer below windows 10, there is a plugin you can get, which also does instant conversions via a context menu (right click in explorer). I believe that is called SageThumbs. Again, that does not seem to be updated for windows 10 yet. In addition to that, you can get a great image browser program which I think Rolo suggested to me, and that is Faststone Image Viewer. It can do some interesting sorting and cataloging for you.

Any time I can grab somebody new and lock them in the room with me, I do it! Once you get in, you can never leave '<img'> But we're all friendly in here!

Thanks again, this CC guide is well structured and easy to understand. I also found the right tool to get my hand on the texture and icon files - the NWN Explorer: http://neverwinterva...explorer-reborn

Now to work!
