The only trouble with using V is that there was a whole !970's TV series called that, in world war 2 resistance groups would daub V (for victory) on walls and during the same period the BBC World Service used the morse code for V as their call sign.

Well if necessary you can give the V a wider serif. Even a cap across the top.
The logo is from the US Sci Fi series though the meaning is much the same. Why would anyone find it inappropriate?
Not necessarily inappropriate. Overused or confusing maybe but not inappropriate.
How about "305". That would be obscure.
