Needing some Help - Mosques/ Churches
« on: July 24, 2014, 08:33:42 pm »

hey everybody;

i was looking at some models @ http://www.3dmodelfree.com/ i had noticed some models of intrest i wanted to try and use for my project.

Here:

http://www.3dmodelfr...els/26405-0.htm

And here:

http://www.3dmodelfr...els/27272-0.htm

Thing is they are all .max files, and they do offer alteranate links but they dont work for me. So of which i dont own max.

If someone could convert it into a .gmax or .mdl that'd go a long way to helping out with the project. I of course would be greatful for the assistance as well ''

The first one, titled red church, is a piece of a multi-part rar in chinese language and will not extract.

The second one is an ftp link to an empty folder on their system, so no files to extract.

I would also hazard a guess that these would be way to high poly to be used in either nwn1 OR nwn2.

Note that the "Other Links" have the exact same issues or provide no real links at all.  So neither one will work.

That Mosque is a very similar design to multiple other Mosque tile groups found in Oriental And Desert type tile sets so I would suspect that it already exists.  The Red Church, I have not seen a working mdl for NWN yet, at least I don't think so.

Ive checked the Red Church, it didnt extract for me either. id probably would need a language plugin for it to work

Hazarding a guess if it were high poly is never an issue for me. the toolset can handle it, and in a proffessional manner i use it primarily for testing first, before placing it into a module as i always do '<img'>

The "other links" seem to be broken yes, i shouldve been more clear on that.  The website is probably rather old.

The white church? you might be referring to Randomdays Empire Earth placeable. What i was looking for was a Russian/ Slavic Style Church like St. Basil's Cathedral. I dont think an asian mosque would fit my design specs

i have a friend working on it right now as i type. if he can get a conversion going, i can definitly turn it into a .mdl

Ah,

Good.

Just saw the first post. The first one won't open (as you know) The second one is a 3ds file and has 104154 polys.

Try older low poly models.

Alternately, use some box modelling and rebuild the models with less polys. It will save your cpu

i might have to do that. it isnt neccesarilly a must have. and im up to my neck in my project atm.

so ill probably end up dropping it. If my friend cant get a conversion of any sort i may do that. i will keep it on the back burner for the time being. Modeling something in its likeness isnt a bad idea later on '<img'>

as I stated above im trying to aim for a more Russian/ Slavic Style Church archiecture, with the intresting minarets theyre known for.

Sorry, My FireFox FireFTP would not successfully download that second link, kept showing me an empty folder.  Yet when killmonger said he actually was able to load it, I went back with Internet Explorer and was actually able to download the .3ds file.

Scaling is way off on that puppy, and would require quite a bit of work to get it sliced into a usable group, but it can be done.

As killmonger mentions, it is very high poly, but a huge amount of those poly counts can be reduced without much real loss to what you would see in game.  It also has completely hidden polys in the interior of the building which can be completely removed as you would never be able to access them via NWN engine anyway.  It translated into a roughly 3cm by 2.x cm sized building, way to small, so would have to be multiplied by some number to get it to a 3x3 sized group, or possibly a smaller 2x2 sized group, and then also remove all the extra polys that are truly not needed.  No textures are supplied with it, so you would have to find an implement textures to everything then use tile-slicer to get it into usable form for NWN, OR alternatively, change it into a place-able instead of a working tile group.

cool!

i never wanted it as a tileset. i shouldve mentioned this when i meant i was intrested in a .mdl file. im good with placeables and have made several. i knew right away that it has an enterior, as why else would it have such a high poly count ''

im looking for just 'the bare bones (strip to bare non) practicality'. just the shape. I can supply it with the needed textures. it looked like the windows were high poly count too. and some sort of mesh (if i said that right, a shiny effect) for the minaret.

if i had a way to look at it, id take it all out myself ''

way to high poly for me. I know that i couldnt even modify these meshes so i cant help here. And most of the look can be achieved by just some good textures. I would use _six church stuff and change the textures. He did a great job on them and they fit perfectly into NWN '<img'>

thanks for the suggestion baba_yaga,

i happen have my own textures i use for my project, to keep everything 'consistant'.

And If it can be done that'd be great! i can touch it up in gmax and assure its as low poly as possible.

And would, of course, share it with everyone. Since it was a group effort
