Would there be any use for/interest in a version of Velmar's Tileset Creator that would work with gMax?

I've been tossing the idea around for a couple of years now, had a plan of attack all drawn up and due to one thing or another have only just recently made some solid progress.  However, to make things move a little faster, I could really use one, two or even a few people to help me on the testing side.  It would allow me to work more on the code while someone else tests the things I think I may have gotten working properly.

Requirements:

  • gMax

  • The ability to provide constructive feedback with screenshots (for clarity) if necessary

  • The patience needed when dealing with pre-Beta software (it will most likely spit, cough, choke and puke quite often)

As for the progress I mentioned earlier.  It's all very rudimentary at the moment.  The rollouts open, the helpers are placeable, I can load an existing .set file and it will re-write that .set file.  That's as far as I've gotten with it, but I guess that's a lot further than it was before I started.

I would be interested ... mainly for getting some sort of mini-map generation functionality.  Forgive me if this has already been addressed in your nwmax updates - I haven't upgraded to the latest one.

Not to crush your interest, but mini-map creation will probably be one area that I would tackle last.  Only because getting the snoop to write out .set, .mdl and .ini files is fairly simple, they are all text-based files.  I haven't attempted any kind of binary file writing yet, which may in the end prove to be the stumbling block.

I'm not saying it can't be done, only that I haven't tried it yet.

Sorry TM, but now I'm going to have to say it can't be done.  In 3DSMax a mini-map is generated via a rendered top view.  This is not possible in gMax as there is no rendering engine in gMax.

So, unless we can come up with another way of accomplishing this, it will remain one of the things that can't be done.  I knew there had to be a good reason why I hadn't tried it before. '<img'>

That's okay - thank you for looking into it.  I appreciate it!
