DDS Request
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:30:08 pm »

Hello Friends;

I wanted to see if someone can help me out. I want to use  desert reskin by sixesthrice in my pw haks but they are created for overrides in tga format and I cannot seem to convert them to DDS. Is there a willing soul that could do this for me?

Thanks so much,

overrides and TGAs have nothing to do with one another, DDS can also be in the override.

Has for doing it for you, I'll do better then that, I'll show you how to convert them to DDS.

FIrst, download the Bioware DDS compression tool

Install it where ever is best for you on your harddrive

Then, take all the .tga files you want to convert and copy them in the [DDS]>[IN] folder and execute runme.bat from the [DDS] folder

After all .DDS files will be in the [DDS]>[OUT] folder.

That simple. Hope that helps.

be aware though: the dds compression tool only works for uncompressed TGA files. if your tga is stored in a compressed format, you can use a program like gimp to safe them in an uncompressed state

If the creator/editor of the tga(s) selected compression(RLE) when saving, they will still be converted to DDS but the colors are all screwed. So in a way, I agree.

I tried using the compression tool and the files did not work. I figures there had to be something more to do but was at the end of my knowledge limits. Any assistance getting those into a format useable by Hak would be great.

Maybe it has to do with the OS you're using? Perhaps you need to give the tool "Run as Administrator" ? or something like that?

For me it just works as I'm still on Windows XP. No fuss. '<img'>

What exactly do you mean by, "the files did not work"?

If by that you mean, they are not viewable with a program such as gimp or irfanview or photoshop, then most likely they will work in NWN.  BioWare's DDS format is not the same as a Direct3D DDS.

If by that you mean, you have no DDS files in the out folder.  I would have to answer by saying to try running the .bat file "As Administrator", or maybe even, if the compression tool is in your root directory, you may need to change permissions on the out directory.

[EDIT] I see LS has beat me to the second part of my guess [/EDIT] '<img'>

All of this is mere guessing mind you, but it is the best I can give you at the moment.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. The files did convert to DDS but when added to the hak and viewed in game they were white. I do not currently have any graphic editing programs installed so I was hoping a kind soul could open them in 3ds Max or other program and output them as the proper format. If no one can get to it I will install gimp and go from there.

Thanks!

Well it looks like you're suffering from either a graphic problem (Graphics card or drivers or both), or a OS config issue which are matters that should be searched for in the "Technical Self-help" forum category.

I'm affraid anyone giving you DDS converted TGAs will not help you, will not change anything until you resolve you system issues.

I have converted them for you not sure if this will help in your case or not. They have already been packaged in a hak. They have been tested in game and viewed in explorer so they work, if they don't work for you I suggest you take Lord Sullivans advice and find a graphics solution for your computer.

This worked like a charm, thank you to all who helped. I will have to take a look and figure out what I was doing wrong. Cervantes35, can you tell me what program and settings you used?

Worked for me as it was explained above so I am not sure what is happening as far why it will not work on your machine.

Since you must be doing a desert you should check out Project Q, Draygoth did some really nice camels that will fit right into that theme.

Project plug I know how lame (LoL).
