Forgetfullness. Go ahead, laugh. I did.
« on: April 29, 2014, 09:34:02 am »

I'm sure other makers of stuff for NWN have similar experiences, but I'll share here just so others can get a little laugh at my expense like I laughed at myself tonight.

On my computer I have a randomly named "working folder" that I've been using for model work for a while.  Tonight I happened to glance down at the file count inside it...over 1,200 files.  There's textures I use often, icons in progress, pieces of models, some newly finished models for my PW, etc.  So I started cleaning the folder out of stuff I haven't used in a long time or stuff I'd long since put into my PW's haks.

And then I stumbled upon several finished placeable models that are on my to-do list.  I finished them 2 years ago...and just forgot to add them to my PW's haks and 2da.  Totally, completely done.  Just sitting there, where'd I'd evidently forgotten them the day after I finished making them. ''  ''

I must be getting old.

That's why it is usefull to use a Override Manager '<img'>  helps keep things nice and tidy and easier to keep track of what you're doing and have done.

Got one I did in my sig, just drop it in your "NeverwinterNights\nwn\"  folder and start it from there for the fist time before creating any shortcuts.

Old is when you go upstairs and can't remember why.

Really old is when you go upstairs and realise that you went up there to put the lawn-mower in the fridge.

I... um... I HAVE done that...

BUT, on the other hand, the second versions of the Creatures I'd forgotten I'd already done were BETTER than the first ones.

Leave it to PHoD to find a silver lining to senility.

Good chuckle, and a bad reminder that organization, or lack thereof, can STILL bite you in the butt when you least expect it to.

I have no idea how many times I have deleted the WRONG folder, thinking I had a backup on a different partition.  Of course now, with this latest complete rebuild, I only have 2 physical drives, one an SSD and the other for major storage, divided into two partitions, and STILL not enough space to store multiple saves.  Especially when windozer lies to you and tells you it is finished copying something when all it did was copy the folder structure without copying the actual files contained therein.

I was. I stopped being a student (I vaguely recall having to verify it with the uni?)

I'm not a student either. Never was there a request to verify with the education establishment. As for what to enter in the form... use your imagination  '<img'>

There really is not any requirement for verification, and as long as you are not attempting to make money doing things, but just attempting to learn how things are accomplished etc, I seriously doubt there would ever be an issue.  The folks over there know that their software is out of the hands of general public, which is why they give the opportunity to gain a student license and to keep learning how to use their software.  They know, that once you become enamored of their software, should you be in a position to need that software for your job, you will convince the business to purchase the licenses necessary etc.
