Humble Requests. (-__-)
« on: July 11, 2013, 07:15:01 pm »

Given its long run, the NWN custom content community has created an enormous amount of haks and overrides that beautify, or otherwise, better the way the game is played. However, I believe there are still things missing, and despite my best efforts, I find my own continued attempts disappointing.

This thread is a plea to content creators to see some reference images, and hear me out on what I think would continue the tradition of perfecting the game. In particular, I'm talking tilesets. There are many reskins and reworks of the original ones, and lots of entirely new expansions and additions. However, after looking for years, I have yet to find some to override in a level of quality seen nowadays, the kind modern projects have.

In particular, it seems the Ruins, Crypt and Sewers tilesets have largely been untouched, aside of some attempts at reskin that, in my opinion, are lacking. It is then I come to the community with my ideas on the matter.

The basic resources are present, if the authors are willing to allow their use, as always. As you may have read before, my main source of inspiration is the game Skyrim, which I believe holds very similar themes and approach to the aesthetic developments found in modern NWN projects. As such, I think I have pintpointed the possible overall schemes for the intended goal.

CRYPT TILESET (Nordic Ruins.)

In Skyrim, the nordic ruins are both dungeons and barrows. Leaving the rough, more circular models aside, I believe both sets hold many similarities, enough to be translated into NWN. The already available content I think would be perfect as basis is Six_Six_Six's Deep Dungeon texture scheme and the 1.69 tileset for barrows. I believe these two have the aesthetic elements needed for a reskin/rework of the Crypts tileset.

This is mainly a request for a reskinning, rather than a complete re-work of the tileset elements, although such is up to the author's consideration.

Future posts will deal with the other tileset requests, given the length both exposition and visual reference takes.
