Castlevania: Arise Again, my contribution
« on: December 14, 2012, 03:01:04 pm »

               Hello!

im back! <well i always was here, I just never left!>  shoosh brain! now onto business

im here to show off my latest project!

presenting here is my first module. now before you exclaim "but clearly this isnt a custom content submission your in the wrong page mister!" well... i sort of am 8)

im working on a castlevania remake called Arise Again. ive spent about the last 3 months working on this
project, and it has been so far the most rewarding and fun experience ive had with custom content.

my intention for the game is to bring back the old nostalgia of video games in there early days, so i included a few elements that the fans of the series may be familiar with <its a secret so he wont tell!>

ive made a custom soundtrack from "super castlevania 4" <in which you will hear in the video!>  yes brain they know!

Now even though Halloween has come and pass, i tend to find my mind more focused towards things that go bump in the night, during the coldest days of the year (who'd think that it would make sense)

to top this all off, yes im doing abit of  shameless self promotion, but i thought to knock out a few balls from the park while im doing it

ive done a retexture of the CCS tileset, but it clearly shows to me that my abilities as a CC creator has much to be desired. i will try to share this below after the video to see if anyone knows how i can fix the issue

so! without further ado i present to you: Castlevaina: Arise Again

this here is the retexture ive been having issues with. the red circle area is where the cooblestone is not the same as the rest.

if i had to guess its the bioware city cobblestone so would it mean i'd have to make a re-texture for that too?

Nice work!  Say, what did you use to make the teaser video?

               first off, thank you! '<img'>

<and second!> yes brain ill get there!

i used fraps to capture video gameplay, and windows movie maker, as i don't own any adobe software. I had to get creative in making the video, and ended up spending about 3 hours to make it.

im excited at how it turned out, so i plan to do another release as the game comes to its deadline

You should make a search of the model you're having trouble with in the reskin to check the exact texture. Or, you could just go for trial and error. I agree, it certainly looks like the original City Exterior cobblestone. You could easily override it, though.

               <being pointlessly...>

First, identify all the tiles that use this texture.
Then decompile them using NwExplorer or whatever.
Text edit them (I prefer Notepad++) and find/replace the old texture name with the new. The odds are really good that the texture mapping will still be at least useable without loading it into gmax or Max.

For a better solution, bundle up the offending tiles and send them to someone willing to remap them. Or (my preference again ;-) drop it into gmax and play :-)

And I think this *is* the right forum...

               thanks for the tips

i ended up using a re texture from another file, and replaced that one with the texture i liked. That seems to have worked '<img'>

@oOKyeOo, if you want a decent FREE video editing program have a look at Lightworks. It comes in 2 flavours a free one and a Pro version. The Pro has actually been used in a lot of commercial movies. It is quite large though being about a 95 meg download. On the other hand it does have reasonably good pdf documentation.
