NWN2 to NWN1
« on: December 03, 2012, 06:54:25 am »

Hey guys! As part of my endeavor to overhaulthe tilesets in NWN I have been selecting and testing NWN2 placeables that were converted to the previous game. However, this made me wonder why there isn't more content, specially creatures. I made a search for tutorials on how to do conversions, but I didn't find anything conclusive. I hope someone here is able to point me in the right direction, seeing as I would be interested in adding more NWN2 content conversions to the ones we already have!

I may be off here, but I think there is a problem with the animations.  NWN2 uses Granny, which (if I am correct here) is a hideously expensive program.  I don't think there is any converter from Granny animations to NWN style animations (and it is NWN, not NWN1, btw).

One can pretty much transfer the skins, but I think a lot of detail will be lost.

You can convert the skins of the creatures, but not the animations. there are no plugins that con reliably import GR2 aniamtions

Original made for NWN content is the way to go in my opinion. Unless you get permission, the EULAs have something to say about use for any other purpose iirc.

Be well. Game on.

there are some mixed creatures from nwn and nwn2. LoW did some very cool stuff, check werewolfes, gargoyles, bugbears, minotaurs, yuanti (the best ones i ever saw for nwn!!!)  you name it... and no one ever said anything eula related... some nwn2 guys used nwn stuff too;)

also the skins need a massive reweight of the bones since theres a lot more nodes in there, basically what you need to do is reduce the bone hierarchy and naming to a nwn compatible one, once you found an animated model from nwn that works for that nwn2 skin. im no animations expert so dont take what i said as gods truth anyway

Ah ok! Thank you guys for sharing some info on the matter! Too bad! It seems it is way less viable than I thought!
