My Cast-Offs
« on: October 18, 2012, 10:48:25 pm »

I have just created a project here for things that I started and either never finished or ran out of talent/creativity/both. The first thing I have uploaded is an image that was to have been shrunk and used for a texture in a hak. The hak was to have been for a Halloween Card Making Kit, similar to the one that I did last year for christmas.

The picture looks like (but is actually 2048x2048) -

Note - What appears black in this image here is actually transparent.

I hope someone has a use for it. (More stuff to follow)

Today it is the turn of "Fun Skies" a collection of 22 experimental skyboxes to be added. They work in game but I wasn't entirely satisfied with them. In order to get as small an archive as possible for the download I have enclosed a 7zip archive within a zip to get around the restriction on file types which in this case has halved the size.

Here are a couple of the skyboxes in game.

With luck I'll have something a lot bigger tommorrow.

I've got the project working for me again so this is no longer hosted on dropbox. So go to my project if you wish to download it.

This a set of placeables called Map Mat Minis.

Feeling that Map Mats was not yet complete, I trawled the vault for placeables that I thought would be suitable for shrinking. Having selected them I used ScalemAll to do so. I then went through and removed those that I thought didn't make the grade. This still left 280+ that looked promising. Unfortuneately not all of the textures worked as well as I thought they should. Add to this my inability to get gmaxplus to work. I therefore left this alone.

So what do I think needs doing to get this into a fully working state? I think, given the slow down I experience with a lot on screen at once, that at least some of the models could do to be simplified and some of the textures need reworking.

The demo module is only partially built but I have created blueprints for the placeables which are found in placeables->custom->Map Mats->Mini.

Technical Details

281 models

2da lines -> 6001 - 6291 (with gaps where models were deleted from the package)

Hope somone can do something with this.

               <sheepishly...>

Ah-hem. What he is very kindly *not* saying is that I *did* say I'd look at these and try to simplify/optimize them... well, it's not *quite* a year ago :-P

A worthwhile project. But I seem to attract worthwhile projects :-/
Sorry, TR.
Still on my plate... just a little moldy. I'd be happy to let someone else jump in.

Thanks guys. I just felt that rather than let these go mouldey on my hd I'd put them out there for anyone to try/run with/etc. Add to this the way the ccc is looking for next month, the last one might give someone a leg up. On the even more plus side I've discovered how to host pictures on my dropbox account for display here (for the map mat minis). On the downside the project stuff seems to have stopped working for me again. I know it can't be zonealarm/firefox/opera so am at a loss especially as java was only updated 3 days ago.

One last thing is there may be more things that I can upload for this, it's just a matter of remembering what they are...

I just want to make it doubly clear that if someone wishes to extract something from any of these and place it into something that they are creating (e.g. a single skybox for a module etc.) I have no objection whatsoever although a mention would be appreciated).

Just uploaded a package consisting of 6 haks. A few years ago now, I had the idea to gather all the add-ons for standard Bioware tile-sets, make them behave nicely and package them all together. Now as far as I can remember I managed to do so except where some gates (ordinary not magical) were concerned. However, I make no guarantee on this as it was some time ago.

Anyway, the tile-sets concerned (for which I have created a hak in the package) are
  • City Exterior
  • Desert
  • Forest
  • Frozen Wastes
  • Mines & Caverns
  • Rural
No pictures this time I'm afraid as I only remembered this a short while ago and in order to keep to the one a day...

The next one may be some time as it is a module and I can't remember what I called it (and I've got 1023 modules in my module folder).'<img'>

Well as I suspected would be the case, I couldn't find the module I was looking for. However as is normally the case I found 2 others ''.

The first one is a Fiendish Maze.

This works in a similar way to the one in my module Hrothgar's Resting Place. However, where the one in Hrothgar is 8x8 this one is 16x16 i.e. 4 times the size. Not only that but I have placed a number of levers, in groups of four, throughout the maze. While I know I have included the scripts for animating them I don't think I actually made them do anything. If you decide to make use of this, you could add your code or you could leave them as is, as your players will go crazy trying to figure out just what they do ''.

The second module is a different but arguably better demo module for map mats minis.

The reason it can be reguarded as being better is that (I think) all the minis are displayed. The downside is that it requires additional haks and each area takes forever and a day to open in the toolset. The full list of required haks is-
  • soz_mini
  • map_mats
  • map_mats_sp1
  • map_mats_minis
The module has 5 areas. Areas 1 to 4 inclusive have the map mats minis and area 5 has the george's soz_min placeables for contrast.

With this last entry I have as far I can remember uploaded all the things that I intend to upload for now. This could change but do not expect another upload tommorrow.
