Where's the cloakroom?
« on: March 31, 2012, 05:09:10 pm »

Ok, I'm ready to toss my feathered cloak in game and start fixing the yucky animations... '<img'>

But what number are we on (in the CCC) and where are the bloody cloak models in the OC? ''

I searched "cloak", "it_cloak" etc in Explorer Reborn (baseitems.2da says it_cloak is the class) and got nothing. ':?'

Currently calling it pfe_cloak_099, but I have no idea where we are or where I'm going, only where I want to go. <><>

               <looking...>

Um...

That is...

Well, no one seems to have made any cloaks for the CCC, so you will have the very *first* number available! =)

But I have no idea what that is...

Any tailors out there willing to help us out?

<...and looking>

               Look for cloakmodel.2da.

Cloaks are weird.  They've got a "base model" (like an armor part, they're race/sex/pheno-specific), then you can lay different textures over that for different looks with the same model.  The icon matches up with the texture.

It's been a couple years since I did anything with cloaks, and those were just new textures for existing models.

Looking at my copy of the 2da, I think you're safe going with #99.  I don't see any model or textures using that number.

Well that certainly gets me closer... ''

But I still have the question of "Where are the OC cloak models?"
They are not with the other pheno models ("pfe1_cloak_..."). They are not with the item models ("it_cloak_...") nor does there seem to be a supermodel... ''

Cloakmodel.2da tells me that the OC went to #16 and Safe2DALines doesn't mention Cloakmodel at all. So would I have to pad cloakmodel.2da to 99? ''

And another question... the indexes for the texture point to what? iit_cloak_013.tga is the 13th icon for cloaks, is there a "it_cloak_013.tga" texture somewhere? Because I sure can't find it. *pout*

I am very frustrated right now. ':crying:'

Time for icecream! '<img'>

               Using NWN Explorer Reborn:

Models:
NWN: HotU Patch Data (they were added in the 1.68 patch)
- data/xp2patch.bif
- - Models

Textures (cloak and icons):
NWN: HotU Patch Data
- data/xp2patch.bif
- - Textures, PLT (both the cloaks and their icons use plts)

As far as padding, I don't think you really need to pad the 2da lines out far.  I was referring to the model, texture, and icon numbers.  There doesn't seem to be a need to keep them all in order or match them up with 2da lines like there is with placeables, creature appearances, etc.

As far as cloaks, the two main packages I ever saw consisted of Amethyst's contributions to cloaks, and the FR diety cloaks by Estelendis.  There was some interesting wrap models around from Whatbrick as well.

If I remember right the cloakmodel.2da is only 255 lines... sooo it's whatever fits. I recall seeing 2da files longer than that, but additional models past 255 did not show.

OC stuff went to about 50?  I can't remember exactly, because they did duplicate some cloaks to show wingmodels.  Most of the initial set (wings don't show through) run from 1-33 I believe.

The mixing and matching of different Icon, and plt and model files can get a bit confusing, but look through Amethysts work, or Estelendis', and it becomes a lot clearer.

It's not that difficult if you have already done previous 2da editing. You can always take a look at any custom work and have a very good idea how it works. It's mainly about matching names of icons, textures and models in the 2da list.

                *dainty curses*

@ Sneaky: I looked at all of those, and only Whatbrick actually used a new model (.011), the rest all re-used models 1-7. '<img'>

Anyway, playing with Whatbricks scarf taught me something important. Unless you have both male & female models, your cloak shows up in game as a bag and never shows on the model :-P

The textures loaded fine (even on the bag, which was wierd '<img'> ), except part of the cloak is transluscent and part is very shiny... How is that controlled? Part of the plt? They are just 8 bit greyscale layers... ''

@ Jumpin' Jax: That part isn't difficult, but knowing where to edit (cloakmodel.2da) and those sneaky, unwritten rules (both pf & pm models needed before you can use) makes things more challenging than they need to be, IMNSHO. But then, if it was easy, everyone would be making really cool skinmeshed winged cloaks, right? '<img'>

Back to the salt mines...

Toodles!

                That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! '<img'>

From Lisa's Third Stab at Fancy Schmancy Cloaks:

Transparency on cloaks - by setting the envmap col of the cloakmodel.2da to **** all  the shiny plt colors (all metals as well some cloth leather hair...) are read instead  as transparency levels.  Most plt colors are only "partly" shiny - which means they  will be semi-transparent to varying degrees - however "chrome" on every material color  palette is 100% shiny which will be 100% transparent - this is what you use.

Cool. Know where I am '<img'>

Leaving now.

P.s. @ TSL: Something to do with your chrome bonnet?
