"Find Text In" for .gui files
« on: March 22, 2012, 10:29:16 pm »

               I was in the middle of tweaking my GUI and realised there were several .gui files that I need to update to change the file name of the texture used. However, they're mostly spread across tens of .gui files, and going through them is a real chore. Are there any programs that can find text inside .gui files to save the effort of having to manually do it? It'd be a huge time saver!

               That depends, if they are like mdl files with strings that you can search and replace then yes.

Useful File Utilities has batch search and replace feature.  I have used it for many robe conversions and such.  I am pretty sure I long ago put a link for the program in the downloads sticky up top.

               Yeah, I was hoping the same thing but it doesn't seem to be the case! It appears like some/most of the filename strings contained inside it aren't but I was hoping there was a program that could display them properly that could do a batch search thingymajig. ;_;

I'm going to try using one of those search programs anyway and see if it does find them all; after seeing how the files showed up in Notepad/Wordpad I didn't even give it a try.

               Hey Rubies!  What you basically want to do is to convert the GFF file to XML (text), edit it, and bring it back to GFF.  Take a look at the tools here or GFF2XML within ModPacker here.

Too much hassle?  Just grab GFF2XML from here and see if that meets your needs.

The first two sites I link to have some damned powerful tools, though.
