Expertise and fighter bonus feats
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:56:37 pm »

Isn't Expertise one of the fighters bonus feats? And being a bonus feat the fighter does not have to meed the requirments? I just wondering because in testing they are not selectable with on meeting the requirements. Any suggestions on a work around this or some information, that I missing. Thanks

Is this a question pertaining to a customization of CEP or vanilla?

In vanilla, bonus feats do not insulate any toon from meeting prereqs.  Just like weapon specialization, another possible ftr bonus feat... needs weapon focus and min of 4 ftr levels (after v1.68, anyway).

BTW, Expertise is a general feat, selectable by any toon with INT of 13 or higher.... again, vanilla.

Not sure why this is in custom content, but expertise is a fighter bonus feat in vanilla NWN.  To qualify you need a minimum of 13 intelligence.  Any gear or effects that increase intelligence are not considered.  The only way to up your intelligence, in order to meet the prerequisite is by increasing the intelligence stat offered every 4 levels or by taking great intelligence feats (9 RDD also gives a +2 to INT which also counts in this regard).

The exception is, of course, those automatic class level feats, like the monk ones.  Those DO ignore the prereqs of the general feat but you get no choice in selecting them.  I am not sure if they are considered bonus feats per se, though.

I suspect you could control all the prereqs in the applicable 2DA files if you wanted to circumvent them somehow.

Yeah, that how I got into looking for this. I made the monk trip feat and disarm work around with some feat.2da edits. Would of been nice if the class feat 2da had a option in there for ignore requirements. That would give us more flexibility in making our systems. Ohh well. Thanks for the information.

Still there are many ways how to workaround these difficulties.

For example if you want to allow some class to choose between two feats with prerequisities, you could make a special feat version without prerequisitis for this class.

Then add default feat on skin if the special feat is chosen in LevelUp. If we are talking about custom feat with some automatic bonus, then using bonus feat isnt needed at all.

With some extra effort you could even make the bonus feat on skin not appear under character sheet.

Yeah I know all about the workarounds and have used them, just look at my hr base and you will know. I just lamenting that they could of just added another 2da line check and engine change so it be easier. '<img'>

What is the work around so that a bonus feat on the skin does not appear on the character sheet?

It would be best of the feat showed up as one chosen by the character, rather than as a bonus feat.
