The Amethyst Dragon for Forum Moderator 2012!

I think we do a pretty good job moderating ourselves and I've never had any problems getting a quick response from BioWare with a PM to Chris Priestly. Granted, sometimes the response isn't always what we want, but...

Besides, I'd rather see AD doing what he does best - keeping his PW alive and honing his CC skills.

                <looking just a tad...>

@ OTR: Don't even think about it :-P Never even *tried* to get audio input working on this thang.

@ Henesua: Agreed that the AD's work is a) incredible and 'B)' important. Disagree that he would be spending too much time moderating to create.  That would be up to him, of course, but he strikes me as someone who knows how much to commit and can certainly handle multi-tasking.

To put it in perspective, I co-moderated the original NwN forums (2 of us, 8 of them, if I remember correctly) for a year. That was one of the most *productive* years I've had custom-content-wise (though I've been creating like a madman since joining in the CCC fun and games). And in those days we worried a lot more about trolls and off-topics and such.  In that respect, as P says, we are pretty good at self-moderating.

But we could definitely use someone who is *here* to fix glitches. My opinion.

This wasn't TAD's idea, but I did PM him long before I proposed this. Unless he's changed his mind, he's willing because he sees that a local touch would help, and because he thinks he can handle it.  I think it's pretty clear Aenea is his priority and he won't let it suffer. But I don't think the moderator duties are nearly that onerous.

@ pstmarie: I want to see TAD honing his CC skills, too :-) *Especially* now that I'm trying to MC the CCC :-P

But I really don't think it's a boolean proposition (see above). It's not one or the other. If it becomes that, he can do what the other moderators do, concentrate on what's important to them.

Which brings me to the point I made above and on the CEP & Q thread. Chris has fixed several things for me and always been polite and professional. But do you know how often I, TSL and others PMed him over sticky issues? Not just the CCC thread, which has been stickied twice, but the CC Tutorial thread, the CEP & Q thread (which has come undone like the CCC)?

Opinion #1: It's to *their* advantage to have a CC *poster* moderate the CC forum.
Opinion #2: It's to *our* advantage to have a CC poster moderate the CC forum.
Opinion #3: I can think of no one better, and few as good, as the Amethyst Dragon to do the job.

Edit: All *that* being said, I'm not married to the idea :-) I think it's a good idea, but it won't make me cry to see it shot down in flames <he's used to being shot down... ;->

Given your experience as a forum mod with bioware in the past, is there a reason you volunteered AD and not yourself?

Be well. Game on.

Yup.

The CCC is *considerably* more work than moderating. Think of it as trying to coordinate a large development team that does not and will not use a common design document. And sometimes won't even show up for work, even in their pajamas! <yup. herding cats>

Easier than running a PW, but still a lot of work I am *not* doing on the Gemworld of Amethyst.

If it wasn't so blasted fun, I wouldn't be doing it at all.
But it is. =)
So I do.
Which leaves me zero time for more commitments on top of my *own* world that may one day see the light of this sun. :-P

A man's gotta know his limitations :-)

I don't think BioWare is at all interested in making any additions to their NWN/NWN2 Moderator list, even if precious few of the 'current' ones are active.

What would make you think that? Have you inquired?

I'd have to agree, even though I don't think he'd do a poor job. He has his own PW as well and that's alot of work in itself.
