Item Icon Backgrounds
« on: July 17, 2011, 04:04:42 pm »

I'm adding in new inventory icons to the game, but when I import them in they have their backgrounds still.

For example, in this picture:

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

Could you post the files for us to have a look?  The transparency setting you used may not have worked for some reason.

Sure thing. I didn't even set a transparency so that's probably it. Where is that done? I'm using Gimp if that helps.

I'll try to help, but this might be a bit difficult - my GIMP version is not in English ;p

So... Open your image in GIMP. In layers window click on 'background' with right mouse button and select 'Add Alpha Channel'. Than use eraser or other tools to remove parts you don't want. You should see some gray squares in the background - those are areas where your image will be transparent '<img'>

Hope this helps '<img'>

Thanks a lot for the response. Still trying to figure things out with Gimp, but at least I know what I have to do now. '<img'>

Gimp only has the option to save as TGA - there's no 32 bit option. Maybe I just need better tools? What do you guys use? Photoshop?

You open gimp and highlight the section you want then save it as alpha under layers transparency. I been doing a lot of these for HR lately with the adding spells and feats from the base 3.5 books. When you check channels you should have your image look like a white on black background. Looking at some of the files you have do erase your backgrounds. Use the fuzzy select tool to highlight what you keep and inverse it and delete. When it done it will have a checker background with your image. Hope that helps some.
