CEP Modules crash while loading
« on: November 29, 2010, 04:47:20 am »

Whenever the game is loading a CEP-using module after unpacking it, the game crashes. Nothing I've done seems to affect this. Any ideas?

               - Can you log into any PWs that use the CEP?

- Can you load any of the CEP modules that come with the CEP download?

- Have you ever run your CEP Updater?

               - Check your hak folder first. Everything in there should end in ".hak". If anything ends in ".hak.update", delete it. Move any erf or tlk files to their proper folders as well.

- Rerun your CEP Updater. Sometimes it takes several passes to update everything for some folk. Keep rerunning the updater until no files get updated.

- Make sure you have NWN including the toolset and server launcher closed during the above.

Both of those are done. There weren't any hak.update files or misplaced files of others types. Nothing gets updated now. If it has any significance, loading up a non-cep module before trying a CEP one makes it able to load up a little bit before crashing, whereas it would otherwise crash immediately when loading starts.

The only thing I can think of is corrupted .hak files. Maybe delete the CEP files, download CEP v2.3 from the vault then run the updater and see if that works. Sometimes big downloads fom the vault get corrupted and the only fix is to download it again.

Thanks, though that doesn't seem to be taking either. I've found now that one of the start modules (which loads in about a quarter of a second) manages to finish loading without crashing the game, so I know that it's possible in some capacity, but any others invariably have this problem.

Maybe check the /logs folder, to see if you've got some error message in one of the logs.

Nothing: the logs just end at "Loading module name". :/

the CEP_Update_test.bat file says it doesn't locate the CEP_Update file, thinking that NWN is in a different folder from where it actually is. But the CEP_Update file works fine. This is probably an inane thing to report, but yeah.
