All feats for one character.
« on: November 27, 2010, 07:40:34 pm »

Once, some time ago, I had this idea of having all available feats work with a single character regardless of his/her class build (say, a wizard may use the multiple arrow shooting of the arcane archer, or a paladin may benefit from the tough bone thingie of the pale master).

Ben Harrison (R.I.P. Well, he's not dead, but is gone from the community) told me such a thing is not possible through simple LETO manipulation, since those class-specific feats are non-functional with other classes, specially when they are level-incremental.

So, I decided to ask the rest of the community if such a thing is possible by, I don't know..., .2da fixes or something...

you can't simply add them via leto, you'd have to edit the class_feat_****.2da for that particular class.

Err... that's exactly what I meant... Could you elaborate on the .2da approach, starting with: Is it possible? Back then, Ben told me it wasn't, that one could only "virtualize" the feats in different classes by using scripts.

Try reading the File Format for creatures.  It lists most of the 2DA's that deal with the classes at the end.

Thanks for the links, Lightfoot, but, do you think it is actually possible to do so? I mean, for one character to have all feats (aside from conflicting ones, of course) functioning the way they do with other classes?

Some feats simply don't work correctly if not added at the proper points in the levelup process. Ranger favored enemy feats, for example, don't work unless edited in at an appropriate ranger level (when they would have them anyway). We ran head-on into that issue in the legendary leveler, and I'm guessing there are a number more such issues. I think much of this is engine level, so you probably wouldn't be able to do this without some plugin work.  If you elaborate on WHY it is you want to do this, we might be able to offer workarounds.

Thanks for clarifying that, Funky! It's very similar to what you did with the legendary levels. By this I mean you "virtualised" it via scripts, for simple .2da mods wouldn't do. Ben Harrison explained something similar regarding the all-feats issue. He said it can't be done by LETO's feat addition nor .2da fix; one must use scripts that somehow complement such. I just thought it couldn't hurt to ask for a second opinion.

As for why, no real mistery there. I play the same character since day one. My Fëanor Maeglin is a Wizard/Druid/Paladin because most modules (original or custom) use those particular classes in restriction dialogues. so the combination allows me to experience more of the games without having to make changes through toolset. However, such "broad"  choice leaves the opportunity of trying other feats out, like those particular to arcane archer, or monk, etc.. I very much love my character, anddon't  intend on building another, for I've made this one a "Trascendent one", via LETO. By such I mean I can de-level him each time he reaches level 40, while keeping some of the skills, feats and ability increments he has so painstakingly learned. Think of it as re-incarnation. I know, I have no life... I actually have never used the legendary system precisely because, according to your instructions, it lacks the option of de-leveling the character.
