Custom Voicset Inquiry
« on: November 20, 2010, 09:17:20 pm »

I would like to enable my online players with the capability of assigning their own .wav files to Quickchat options and/or the 'assign to' option for QuickSlots.  I see no reference to this in the forums, but I may be missing the obvious.  While the QS assign option provides for written text, I'd like to be able to let their PC's 'sound' like the actual IRL players, or for that matter, some really bad movie .wav clip references of their choosing.  While I'm putting this out there, if I am a player on another's module, is there a way I can modify my PC to do the same thing?

each character .bic file has a soundset, which is referenced in soundsets.2da

The .2da file then references a .ssf file, which is essentially a list of what sounds to play for each action, as well as a .tlk reference for the displayed text.

Meaning that the module builder would need to edit their soundset.2da, as well as include the appropriate .ssf file, .wav files, and edit the module .tlk for each individual entry.

There's no way for me to simply drag and drop a file into my PC locally and have everyone else hear my character.

Also, iirc you'd need to make a HAK of them or _maybe_ use the override folder (I'm not sure) but - all the players would need the HAK else only ONE player would hear the alternate sounds or see the alternate text. Feel free to correct me if I'm off on this call.

Be well. Game on.

This much I understand and I thank you. Where are these files sourced from?  The module through the server vault or the player's rig?  Given character creation occurs before entering the module and if the .bic is stored on the SV, I would think that either the source code is at their locale, and they could enact chhanges in that process (and changing a PC voiceset is their prb), or I gotta build a new data base and separate their selections...

Yer right about the HAK. I'm not worried about that.  I am thinking about how to do it though...

If PC can type in text, where is the .wav sound ability?

Simply put: you can't do that. The game doesn't have this ability.

However you, or you players can replace existing voicesets sounds with theirs, for their own local use.
You can find all the needed  informations in the Custom Content Guide , page 48 +
