Did you try 'revert to startup layout' from the 'customize' menu? That should do the trick.

I guess you have closed the main toolbar and opened the tab panel instead. To open/close the tab panel press 2 and to open the main toolbar press alt+6.

If that still doesn't help, try the reset button after selecting customize UI.

               New Question

I have two meshes in a view port......... when i click on one mesh it makes the other mesh disappear and turn into a selection box. This is making it hard for me to line my objects since i can only see the mesh i have selected.

example

I click on this wheel and the wagon disappears and all i see is a box where the wagon was but the wheel is now visable.

I click on the wagon then the wheel turns into a box.The wagon is visable but only a box where the wheel was visable.

Couldnt find Adaptive Degration in gmax toolbar but i customized all viewports to show wireframe.I assume you were going from the toolbar view which has a drop down list.Maybe we have differnt versions. Its alright with wire frame though.Thanks.

You may not be able to find Adaptive Degradation, but that is what's causing your problem.

With GMax as your active window, press the "O" key once and see if that solves your problem.

Oops, I should've remembered that that is one of the options gmax likes to keep hidden away in its' recesses. Failing the 'O' button (which should indeed be the default key it's mapped to)  you should also be able to go into the Customize options and turn it off somewhere in there.
