Adding a new item to the OC
« on: August 29, 2010, 03:31:57 am »

I created a new item in the toolset (+1 rapier with keen), and exported it to a .erf.

After maybe an hour of looking/fiddling around, I am unable to figure out how to get custom items into the campaign. I'm mid way through chapter 1, so I don't want to restart Chapter 1 or wait till chapter 2. I also just tried making a save in a module with the item, and copying the player.bic over to an OC save, but my original character is still there when I load up.

Is there a way to do this, or am I sol until chapter 2?

There really is no way other than to directly edit your player.bic via something like Leta.  As to actaully adding something into the main campaign etc, the only other way is to edit the original nwn, renamed to *.mod and restart.

No restart is needed.  you just need to add the Item to the override folder then spawn it in with the debug console.  check the link above.

For useing the Debug console if you need to know how;

Instructions for DM Commands

I don;t think The dm commands can spawn in items that the OC doesn't already know about.  From what I understand a custom item can not be spawned via dm_commands, unless that special item has been added to a hak, and the hak added to the module.  My previous statements stand.

Sorry, your statment does not stand.  I have done it to many times.  And have told others how to do it with comfirmation of there it working for them.   Again.  You only need to move the blueprint for the item into the override folder. reload the saved game and you can then spawn it with the console commands.

Adding a new item to the OC

               Hello team -

I have been scouring the internet for hours upon hours this evening, and can't seem to find a solution to my dilemma.

I am trying to use the cep_craft.erf (containing x0_skill_ctrap.dlg) to access alternate appearances for my character's armor, weapons, etc after adding CEP 2.4 to the OC.  (Via adding the haks to the renamed .nwm files [to .mod] and then  following the proper hak stack order, (and making sure the .tlk file is properly set))  In addition, I have properly imported the cep_craft.erf package and built the module as needed.  The issue is that as I cycle through the various options in game via the radial craft menu made available by the new x0_skill_ctrap file, it fails to grab any of the new content from the CEP, only ones from vanilla NWN.

I have literally been scouring the internet all night for at least 6 hours, and have ran into a complete lack of knowledge (or interest) on this topic.  I apologize in advance if this is not the proper place for such questions, as I am not an avid forum-user.  I beg of anyone out there who has either encountered this issue before, or has some sort of intimate knowledge of the steps necessary to make what I want to happen to reply as soon as possible to this message.  Thanks very much in advance for any and all help you can provide!

what have you done with the modified campaign after you added haks? you need to replace the default campaign by renaming the mod to nwm back. Also it doesnt work this way in savegame as saved game saved the whole module with original haks (no haks). Adding haks into savegame is possible but I wouldnt recommend renaming to mod again. You will need to open savegame via nwhak.exe, export module.ifo file and then modify it using "modified gff editor" and haks in there...

A year later - still the same situation.

Can anyone else out there add to ShaDoOoW's statement? ShaDoOoW, I sincerely apologize, but I was unable to follow what you were trying to tell me starting with, "Adding haks into savegame is possible... <and onward to the end of the post.>"

I must sadly admit, I am not very proficient in crossing language barriers. Again, I extend my apologies for this.

Next, I must also admit that I am not the most proficient or intimate user of the toolset, and therefore am not sure if something changed between CEP releases 2.3 and 2.4 that would create an additional step in getting CEP items, appearances, etc. to be accessible by using the CEP-based craft dialog scripts.

Again, the steps I believe are necessary to accomplish being able to use the CEP-based craft dialog in a CEP-modded OC module are:

1) Install CEP 2.4 and put all its contents into the correct NWN subdirectories.
2) Rename original .nwm files to .mod and put them into the modules folder.
3) Open the new .mod OC files, (For example, I start with Prelude.mod) and add CEP per the stack order list provided in the CEP documentation.  Rebuild the module and save.
4) Import CEP_craft.erf into the module (which contains x0_i0_skill_ctrap.dlg, the CEP crafting dialog) open it, save it.
5) Rebuild and save the module again.
6) At this point I should be able to open up NWN, go to the Other modules... section, choose the newly CEP-modded OC module 'Prelude', and upon beginning I ***should*** be able to access the crafting dialog menu to find new options, and access all CEP-based armor appearances, etc.  But I never can, no CEP dialog, no CEP armor appearances, nothing.  All vanilla NWN stuff, period.

Please, I beg of you guys out there... I know there is some amazing talent that can fill in whatever gaps there are in my process above.  Surely, I know this can be done.  I know this will sound very corny, but adding in the features I'm looking for in step 6 above will literally make or break this game for me.  I have owned NWN for countless years and still haven't played through the OC simply because I can't stand the lack of appearances, etc. when I know there are sooooooo many more out there available via the CEP.

Please, answer my wish... to those who have gotten this to work and know exactly how to make this work, step by step... add everything you can think of.

In the meantime, please accept my sincerest thanks for reading through this and helping one more person enjoy a great D&D adventure the way that counts most to them.  Good luck, my friends...

Not exactly what you may want, but here's what I did years ago. I got me Ascadia's Complete Clothing. That hak has many of the CEP armors and a lot more that aren't included, as well as a nifty crafting menu. Then, I downloaded the Character Customizer Override version, and ditched it in the override folder. Now, the tricky part was merging both crafting dialogues. That's more complicated, but I think you could make do with Acadia's alone. Bear in mind, you can personalize and modify this further and add as much as you want to the haks and the dialogue itself. In the long run, it means more work, but it has made the game for me in terms of options. CEP has always lacked in my opinion. Ascadia's has a lot more to offer in terms of clothing and armor. Also, bear in mind this hak pack is compatible with the first version of CEP up to 1.69, not the version 2. In my case, I use mostly that one, and have effectively used it with CEP 2.4 without issues. OF course, I don't use THEIR horse system.

               Master Jax -

Thank you very much for the information provided. I will look into the Ascadias Complete Clothing hak(s), but I want to make it clear to the community that I am still resolute on attaining the goal in my post above.  I simply cannot rest until the community reveals the wonders of perfectly blending CEP 2.4 into the original campaign modules - step by step, for all of us in the world to enjoy.

I know it can be done.  I'm begging you guys out there... please make this happen.  If you have ever gotten what I'm asking for to work, please take a few minutes and reply to this post.

Also, I know there was one guy, goes by the name of Guile or Genisys on the NWVault who could easily shed some light on this issue.  I have never contacted him and don't know him in any way, but I am a fond user of some of his mods and scripts.  They are amazing, to say the least and I'm sure all of you out there are at least somewhat familiar with his works.  That being said, if anyone knows him or knows how to contact him and possibly rouse his interest in this matter, I would greatly appreciate the gesture.  (I know it's a long shot but, hey as you can tell I'm a bit desperate here '<img'>)

Again, thanks very much folks... I will eagerly stand by in hopes that you guys can truly bring NWN OC to life for me and everyone else out there by showing us how to seamlessly blend it with CEP 2.4.
