Old Tileset updates?
« on: August 25, 2010, 07:25:53 am »

Thinking about trying to update a few of the older tilesets to run under 1.69 (with or w/o CEP) are there any inparticular that people miss the most??

Also, does anyone know if a Minus Tirith style mountain city tileset was ever created? I remember a lot of work being done with the various mountain tiles but can't recall a city.

As far as I know, any community made tileset that runs under version 1.00 of the game runs under 1.69 as well. Are you specifcally referring to resolving door-related issues? As far as I can recall, those are the only conflicts.

Probably the closest thing to a mountain city I've seen is Pasilli's Rocky Mountains/Dwarven Stronghold. As I recall, some of the tilesets built on that contained a fair number of options (but not necessarily all the groups from Bioware City Exterior). Adding those tiles shouldn't be too hard if that is what you're looking for. Doing some simple retexture work (even using the Bioware city textures) would probably get you something along the lines of what you are describing.

If someone was interested in taking all the various mountain spin-off tilesets, combining all the custom features into one larger tileset, adding most of the typical features and groups from Bioware sets, and addressing the inevitable door and walkmesh issues -- well, that would definitely be an enormous contribution to the NWN community. As things stand now, most of the mountain tilesets are all bit incomplete and ...hinky.

The only things likely to require updating would be custom doors added to the doortypes.2da, which not every tileset has (none of mine do, for instance). Doors notwithstanding, tilesets are entirely self-contained from a compatibility point of view, and require no updates to be compatible with either NWN updates or other hakpaks.

Older add-on versions of standard bioware tilesets will need updating.  Rural mainly comes to mind, but possibly City as well had standard assets added after certain updates.  So .set and .itp files would also need updating so all tiles would be available.

Yeah, my merchant fleet addon will be the first to get an update. The ones I was thinking of though were the standalone reskins and the add-ons. The rural reskins shouldn't need much but the city set got a decent update. I think mostly though it will be add-ons and reskins that need the attention, maybe a few standalones but not many.

Almost forgot.. there are also a few (up to 3 maybe) that were released that could use some touch up or a split off the main bw tiles as well.

There are other things that may need updating inside some older tilesets as well as those mentioned. You need to look for 2da files because some tileset haks also contain such things as a small number of placeables. One example of this is the dla sewers tileset which I've just updated to work in a project I'm currently on. If I had left it as it was, a good number of Bioware placeables would have disappeared (along with doors) because of the line numbers originally used.

I've actually been working on this over the last few months.

Within the last few days, I have finished updating ValynDyral's Arcadia City, and completing and updating sixthrice's CC City Exterior.

Both sets have been sent back to the original Authors, so hopefully you'll see updated postings on the vault soon.

ThallionStellani's NWAlleys is almost done, though I have been unable to contact him.

I did an update to I think 5 or 6 tilesets. I used MDAs bridges for city along with some roman things added gentle hills to rural/rural winter. It was pw specific with some of the things i needed for harvest moon but your welcome to look at it. most of the content I referance and gave proper credits too. Also fixed a few bugs like rotating the edge tiles for tall bridges so they show up at the right angle to the tileset.

I use old tilesets, and all I need to do is add the lines in the tileset 2da, to my already made 2da.

I don't quite understand tile sets only have 1 2da for edges. to add tiles you need to put in the tiles and woks, change the .set and .itp then make a mini map for the tile possibly an edge tile with an edge 2da entry?

I'm not just adding tiles - in fact of the three sets I mentioned, I added tiles to only NWAlleys (it got the Bioware 1.68 and 1.69 City Exterior tiles, and an edge tile) and Arcadia (Bioware 1.68 and 1.69 City Exterior tiles).

NWAlleys is a wonderful concept, and was included in both the other sets I worked on.  Unfortunately, the models and walkmeshes in the versions on the vault needed a lot of fixes, and that was true not only of the original Alleys addon, but of the alley tiles in the other sets they were included in.  That was where the vast majority of the work was, regarding Alleys.  The updated version of Alleys was uploaded to the Vault tonight, so it should be available within a couple of days.  [Edit: it is in fact, available now: Here ]

Arcadia City got the new Bioware City tiles, fixes to the alley tiles, and day/night animation fixes.  It was sent back to the original author on 6/26, so hopefully it will be available to the community soon.  [Edit: available now, Here ]

The version of CC City Exterior originally released on the vault is incomplete.  Completing it involved extensive model, walkmesh, texture, minimap, and animation fixes and changes throughout the set.  It was sent back to the original author on 6/23, so hopefully it will be available to the community soon.

All three of these sets make wonderful additions to NWN, and the original authors deserve the credit for them.  All I did was fixes and updates to make them more usable.

Found some additional things that needed fixing on CC City, so that one is still on hold, but the other two are now up on the vault.
