How to alter Bard Song "floating notes" visual? [solved]
« on: August 11, 2010, 04:17:20 pm »

I'm curious how it would be possible to replace the floating notes over a bard's head (that signify a Bard Song is in effect) with another set of symbols.  I believe the visual effect is VFX_DUR_BARD_SONG.

I've been fooling around with Amethyst Dragon's various colorized icon sets, which appear to be just simple TGA fiiles that can be popped into the override folder.  I'm wondering if there are also three different image files for the three different floating notes that could be overridden the same way.

If so, does anyone know the name of those three note images?

If not, does anyone know how they could be altered?

Thank for any help you can give me. '<img'>

Followup question:  I created a custom fxpa_song.tga, and it replaces the bard song floating overhead animation just fine when I put that TGA in the override folder.  However, it fails to work if I put it in a hak, or if I put it in both a hak and the override folder.

Anyone have any ideas why this might happen?  Is it possibly because I'm actually overriding a DDS file with a TGA file?

Correct.  When using just in override, usually just a .tga will work fine.

Once you venture into changing a texture via hak, the game automatically looks for a .dds version first...even if that's back in the default game resources if there isn't a .dds in the hak.

Convert your .tga into a .dds for your hak, and you should be good to go.
