Custom character models from vault
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:45:51 pm »

I have valid reasons to assume they are all bugged. You know I used to ran PW with PRC and custom creator that allowed to choose new character models, I got illithid, lizard, minotaur, goblin and maybe more of them from vault. Also there was Wemik and Brownie from CEP but they didn't fit into my PRC races so I didn't used them / yet they are in subject of this topic too.

Problem was that these models are all based on old human model, and this model had problem with crashing, you all know animation fix right? Its pointless now since its fixed in models. However these custom character models from CEP and vault still uses old one (fact) and still crashing (hypothesis). Well even before they was almost unplayable cos there wasn't animation fix for them, they crashed almost everytime someone attacked from invisible...

So Im I right, or the fix for crashing was somewhere else than in model - that case those customs are fine?

Hmmm I remember more or less what you're talking about, I think it was one of the animation files.  I'd like to say a_fa.mdl, but I can't remember anymore, not sure if you have ability to search the old bioware forums.

If you're referring to a bug that was in old animation files affecting models, any fix should surely be universal, as the models should always inherit their animations from the game's set of supermodels rather than containing the offending animation data themselves...

I can't remember the exact details of the bug anymore, had something to do with creatures attacking from stealth, perhaps female creatures, I cannot remember anymore.

Well I'm sure the old animation fix didn't worked for them.

1.69 added a number of fixes including animation fixes.  As stated above, the supermodels contain the animations.   There are some replacement supermodels that were bugged - the notable one that comes to mind was the C.R.A.P. supermodels.  These broke the new cloak animations since they did not have those in them and used some of the same slots.  They also broke some of the horse animations.  Axe is working on merging those and some other animations including the alternative combat animations, crawling and some others into one super-supermodel.

CEP removed the C.R.A.P. supermodels before release of the CRP system in CEP and is still waiting on getting those fixed.   I have not seen any crashing issues with any creatures models in CEP and i work with them extensively on my PW Annakolia.

The bug mentioned above about stealth attacks was addressed in fixes for 1.69.

Patch notes about animation crash

Heya Barry, I don't suppose he's looking at Vaei's animations as well?  I went through and patched them up about 2 years ago and it's mostly workable, but there are a few small mistakes, like it causing cloaks for dwarves to break(no movement animation).  I think it might have to do with the custom animations not having any cloak nodes.  It's small but I don't know enough about animating to fix it properly.

I really don't know but i suggest telling Axe about Vael's animations and see what he says.  We needed an expert on working with the new 1.69 slots and merging in animations - that is NOT me *grin* so Axe has stepped up to the task and from what i have heard, doing well.

I am looking forward to seeing the end result - as i think we all are, yes?
