I run LINUX so cannot participate in the beta, but some of you Windows 7 and Mac OSx types may want to join. Please do share with the rest of us the nature of your experience there.

I've tried the windows client...some features aren't done yet and only 3 games support Galaxy Multiplayer.  The one that I own showed no public servers available.  So mainly it's just the store and your library of games right now.  As an installer it's nice.  Technically it's quite similar to Steam, mostly a native wrapper around WebKit, but much lighter weight and less clunky.


 


It didn't recognize NWN when I attempted to import it to the installed games list, so I don't know if there are any features related specifically to it yet.


 


From what I've seen from the games that are testing the multiplayer aspect, Galaxy won't itself show server listings.  It provides an API and infrastructure like SteamWorks and GameSpy that need to be integrated into a game.  So it would probably would require NWN[C]X type changes to use it.  Maybe GOG will do all that themselves?


 


That's my impression.  There are still a lot of features that need to be added.  Overall it looks promising and nicer than Steam.

Yea.  I was tempted to try installing via Galaxy, but I haven't gotten around to it.


 


EDIT: I noticed if you go the game page from your library select More | Manage... | Import Folder.  You can import the game that way.  It does recognize that it has a toolset, configuration manager, etc, etc, and can launch via Galaxy.  It did install some extra files.  When you launch it does do time tracking but is otherwise vanilla NWN.  There is a file goggame-1207658890.info that can be modified to change the loader to NWNCX, however, any updates or verifying the installation resets it.

I have a GoG version of NWN and had the same issue. It isn't recognised.


 


Even if they do add it, if it requires you to have a GoG version, Galaxy will have very limited use as far as the current community here goes.

At the moment it doesn't even rcognise The Witcher 2 or around half of my installed GOG games so that is something they need to fix. In other words, it's not just NwN and NwN2 that are not recognised.

Gog Galaxy is in beta, and there is no promise on which games are supported at the outset, but be patient, I'm sure they'll roll out support for all their supportable game titles in due time. I am curious, please keep the feedback flowing here, but be patient too, this is no small thing they do, both for our and other communities.


 


I could see where they might work out the kinks by supporting titles bought through GOG first, then add outside purchased games of titles they support afterward.

If GoG Galaxy uses a new protocol for server status / match making - it might be possible to adapt the current nwnx_serverlist plugins to match.

Chances are, gog can read nwn servers just like anyone can. There really is not anything needing modified to 'be listed' if you host a nwn server as it is.

GOG Galaxy seems nice, but I hope the final version will be polished much better.


Its features are limited at the moment. They need to sort out importing an already installed GOG game, because it's messy at the moment. I can only import a game via "Import folder" option (which seems to return my copy of the game to a vanilla state, btw) and telling GGalaxy to use a specific folder as a root of all the games folders simply doesn't work. It doesn't recognize that any games are installed in that folder.


 


Another thing is localization. If I want to install a Polish version of the game via GOG Galaxy, I need to install the English version first, then go to this game's config and select "Polish", which prompts the update of my game files with Polish ones. This might results in an additional download (depending on the game, I had them as big as 2GB) which is simply pointless, you basically need to download these files twice, once for the English version, then for the other one.


 


Finally, it needs to have a way of adding friends via their nicknames. Adding friends by clicking on their profile icons on the forum is nice, but it definitely should not be the only option available.

Until they get the multiplayer server listing incorporated, I will not be adding them to the multiplayer alternatives to the loss of gamespy then. That's too bad. But still holding out hope.
