NWN Subreddit - /r/NeverwinterNights1

                In the interest of helping to draw new players and keep interest going for this wonderful game, I started a subreddit on Reddit.com.  You can find it at http://www.reddit.co...rwinternights1/

A year or so ago, I spearheaded the community's 10th anniversarry celebration for NWN (NWPAD, if anyone remembers that), which speaks to my commitment to helping our community remain healthy.

Not that I'm particulaly interested in dividing up the existing community from this forum or potentially others (such as the new vault), but there is a sizeable general gaming community on that site.  Given this, I'm 'fishing where the fish are'.   I would suspect that a decent proportion of them know about or have experience with NWN1 (or would be interested).  I believe it's important to have our game have a healthy representation there so we can find them, rather than expecting them to find us.

I'm hoping that an active NWN1 subreddit might get people to reinstall the game, engage with some of the awesome custom content that continues to be developed, download more mods, and join more persistent worlds.

What's more, the tone of Reddit in general is more conversational and lighthearted, which gives rise to some alternative ways to talk about our content (e.g. memes).

I invite everyone here to jump on there, say hello, advertise your content, and just generally hang out.

               Good idea.  I was going to point out the nwn subreddit which has been around for a few years now but, technically, looks like it's more oriented to all things Neverwinter (1, 2 & the MMO).  Along with NeverwinterVault.org, I think your subreddit will make a decent place to regroup should this place ever have the plug pulled, unexpectedly.

Plus, chances of a NWN1GoneWild subreddit have increased by .001%

               Hey OTR!  For some reason I completely missed the original and only found it after you mentioned it.  Thanks for pointing that out.  

I like the idea of separate NWN1 and NWN2 subreddits since in places where the two are combined (such as the forum on GoG.com), NWN2 gets a lot more posts and seems to drown out the NWN1 comments.  The MMO subreddit gets decent traffic and that volume would certainly drown out any NWN or NWN2 topics.

My main intent is to provide an outlet for us to reach 'new' members.  These Bioware forums might reach 5-10% of current players (probably less).  It seems more used by those of us who are actively involved in building content in some way.  Players do visit sometimes to get technical support or play advice, but we're only reaching a small proportion of the active playerbase and none of those who might become active players (by getting them to purchase for the first time or reinstall).

Therefore, I see these forums and a subreddit as serving two different purposes.  This one remains servicing the existing community while an active subreddit serves as a communications vehicle for mostly 'new' people who might be interested in a game which offers a lifetime of free RPG content.



Also, given it's focus on 'snackable' conversations or topics, it's somewhat irreverent tone, ability to support images (such as memes), it makes a perfect vehicle to put a different spin on the personality of the community than these 'official' forums.

               Good news!  The subreddit is growing in subscribers/readers (though clearly it has a ways to go).  Additionally, the subreddit has some volume of people at least seeing it, although they may not be subscribing.  That has value as well.

What's more, we've gotten interest from an old action player asking about PWs, so that's good news!  Score one for them.  Just proof that this can work.  At least it's a start.

I'd love if other content creators would add to it so it's not just me submitting content (I'm fine just posting about my stuff, but I was hoping this would be something for the whole community).  There's so many interesting ways to showcase your content.

Yeah, apparently Reddit has these things called 'standards' and 'rules' (whatever those are... '>

 

But, unfortunately, I didn't have enough karma points (whatever those are...) to actually start a subreddit and it got auto-shut down.  So, it's not like it was banned for content or anything egregious.  In the meanwhile I'm trying to build enough worthless karma points (need 500) to get it re-opened.

 

However, the one you point to should be fine and if it serves the purpose, so much the better.  I have no idea who moderates it, though or if they're active.

Ah. Kind of a stupid system. Why doesn't it just stop you from creating one until you reach 500 karma points? So silly lol.
