Are you a Virtual Tabletop DM? Sign in please.

I've been an avid tabletop RPG gamer since 1981 or so (please pardon my geezing), and I so love the "tabletop method" that was traditional in my gaming groups, I've sought to duplicate the strengths of that method in my NWN games.  I've read some things online that imply to me that others have done similar things, and I'm curious just how many such groups there are, and how similar they are in method.

(DISCLAIMER: I already completely understand that these things are NOT how the majority of the gaming world do things.)

My group and I tend to:

 * only engage DMed games, never leaving the server up between sessions

 * build our groups mostly from people we know face to face, not online

 * use voice chat (Skype) alongside NWN, and most don't want to game without it

 * use an unspoken "honor system" in which we don't use unintended advantages, like instances where the game allows us to do something the DM probably did not intend

 * treat the game like it's serious for our characters, even if we're joking around

 * observe a fairly strict separation of player knowledge from character knowledge

Do you do any of that, or anything similar?

I'm wondering if my group's methods are rare, extremely rare, or almost unique. ':?'

That's how I ran my campaign back in the day:

Unfortunately since my son was born I haven't had much game time.

Thanks for the link!  That looks like a fun time was had.  And I've been told that once kids hit ages 9-12, they are smart enough to game with their parent(s), but not instinctively rebelling yet, so this is a chance to get back into it.  ;-)
