GOG Promo weekend and nwn serial number question
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:40:02 pm »

GOG are running a d&d games promo weekend (here if anyone's interested) including nwn at (maximum) $5.99 (about 3.90ukp), So I thought why not, if nothing else it's good insurance. The question is do I still need to ask for a unique nwn serial number now that the master server is gone (or have I misunderstood (yet again, wouldn't be first time) the reason why one is needed)?

Yes, request the unique CD keys from GOG. The one you get with it is generic, and everyone who buys from them has it. Multiplayer still requires unique CD keys, and if someone else is logged in to a server with the generic key, and you also try to log in, then you won't be able to join.

Additionally, PW servers are using in-house databases to assign your CD key to your character vault, and provide a security check against your key. You don't want your key to be the generic one in that case either.

Thanks AlgernonsGhost, I thought I would check on here about it as I wasn't sure due to all that's gone on in the past couple of months.

               Also:

"A few things to note:
1) The game should come with a single-player CD Key.
2) To play Neverwinter Nights online, you will require a different unique CD key than what comes with the dowload. Please contact gog.com through http://www.gog.com/en/support/contact and select "multiplayer key request" in the "I have a problem with:" drop-down menu. They will send you the CD key along with additional instructions. Changing the CD key from the single-player key to the new online key will result in the premium modules (like Kingmaker) not working anymore, because they will use the default key for validation. To get around this, go to your My Account page on GoG.com and find the "premium modules re-installer", under the game's additional content. Download this file and install it. The premium modules will now be adapted to the new CD keys." - BTB

@Lazarus Magni thank you. Done that and because it's a Saturday I will probably have to wait until Monday for my key. One little annoyance was that it wouldn't let me send it off until I affixed a dxdiag report to it, due to the way it is written for bug reports. Cest la vie.
