RE: GOG/Impulse Users With Various Issues - START HERE
« on: October 30, 2011, 09:30:16 pm »

For anyone who downloaded the game from GOG or Impulse and are now experiencing issues, try this BEFORE reporting to project developers (e.g. Project Q, CEP, PW admins) or posting the issue on this forum (or GOG's):

1. MAKE SURE THE GAME IS INSTALLED TO YOUR ROOT DRIVE - C:/
2. Download the 1.69 Critical Rebuild and patch the game - I know GOG and Impulse claim to be properly patched to 1.69 but many users are still having issues.

The full path to your game files should read C:/NeverwinterNights/NWN/

If you are still experiencing issues then go here - http://social.biowar...7/index/3341490

If you are still having issues then by all means post your problems in the Self-Help Support Forum.

I dissagree,  First it is in the wrong section.   The part about the install directory is already covered in the sticky for installing under vista/win7 on the Tec support board.  Since the install drive does not rmatter that much in XP installs, that part is covered.

Patching the game.  Is also covered in the same stickie with links in the Tec Support section.

Installing NWN1 for Win7/vista including patch links for all OS.

Lightfoot is correct. When I posted this Shia hadn't updated the instructions yet on the post referenced. As to posting in the wrong place...that was a purposeful descision on my part as I wanted to get the broader exposure. Not the best choice, but given the way people seem to overlook the tech support self-help section, I figured "...why not?" '<img'>

'Image I don't have any problem with you posting it here.   I even feel it is a good thing to fly by now and again.   The wrong board was directed more at the suggestion to sticky it here.   It would be a good addition to  Selene Moonsong's  NWN 1: Technical Support (Self-Help) Starts Here  thread, If you could get her to add it.

I never read the tech support myself, well, not anymore, so, yeah, anywhere is better than nowhere.
The "general forum" is the first beach one could land on, swimming away from the other world.

Maybe a better bet would be to create a NEW thread here, with a SINGLE post with only a link to the self-help forums.  Folks are blind and lazy, and seldom search to see if there is already an answer anywhere other than where they happen to be.  A single post, here, stickied AND locked, with a link to the self help, might help alleviate the entire issue.

Maybe I should write up a PDF file and post it to the Vault.

It's a wonderful idea, full of hope for humanity's ability to bother to look *cheeky grin* (even with the blind and lazy comment *cheekier grin*) ... but even an optimist like myself has to notice the hundreds of posts in the tech support section which get answered with a link to the sticky the OP never bothered to read. If they can find the tech support forum and not read the stickies then why would they read the ones here?

But no harm in trying *smiling*

p.s. Sorry it is taking me a while to update things, RL is being a biyatch.......  and thanks for the notices that I should '<img'>
