« on: September 03, 2011, 11:45:13 pm »

I'm going to buy a new PC in a few days that works with windows 7 64bit professional. The problem is that after a lot of searching on the web i started to find some issues about compability in Windows 7.Maybe I wont play my favourite game again but I'm still hoping that I will find some help here. Can you help me? ''

if the 64 bit is anything like the 32 bit, it should run just fine as long as you're in administrator mode, and set to Win XP SP 3 emulation.  I've never had any problems with those settings under WIn 7 32 bit.

NWN works just fine with Win 7 pro. That's what I'm using. You're more likely to have issues with your graphics card/driver than your operating system.

Look here for destructions on installing.

Check the Technical forum.  Most of the issues involving Win7, 64-bit and multicore systems that have occurred are listed there. Driver compatibilities, card recommendations, setting adjustments....
issues like that have been pretty much deliberated by the community. Also, Shia's Win7 installation guide is there so you may want to familiarize yourself with the nuances beforehand.

There are also many discussions in the legacy forum of issues like this, but you will need to use the WaybackMachine to access those posts and the search utility is not all that user-friendly though you can find info by persistence.

And if you want to save all hassle installation wise, just copy over nwn from your existing installation on your old pc. If it's patched up to 1.69, you are ready to ride almost as soon as the copying is over. I did this for my son's new laptop and it worked great, while installing from disk did not work.

Windows 7 32bit is not the same with 64bit. The 64bit reads data from memory and HDD. 32Bit reads data only from HDD which is slow.
By the way I am a little bit confused about the Windows XP Compability. I know that there is an option on the properties of a program but also, there is a program that runs virtual XP (Xp compability mode) on the 7 Desktop. Which one of them should I use?

I and my friends run it on win 7 64bit with no problems so long as you get the right video drivers (and only possible issue I have heard of recently is laptop drivers for nvidea, but I only heard mention of a problem once. My installation guide linked upthread is the place to start. Remember to install directly to C drive.
