A few days ago I was reading one or two of the threads here about the authentication server being down and someone mentioned that their premium modules were authenticating just fine, had been authenticating fine for a while. That didn't strike me right because to my knowledge they were always authenticated off the same server. Someone else tried what I tried, which is just installing a Premium module they'd never paid for back in the day and it ran for them just like it ran for me.
I played a couple of them- they're really neat, BTW- and saved my games. Did tests with my router plugged in and not plugged in, etc. It definitely appears that anyone who installs a Premium module, whether they paid for it or not can now play. There is some kind of authentication taking place on the other end and something is definitely saying "Yes, go ahead and let them play". Which is great, it really is, but I'd rather have the multiplayer auth back. That's just me, though.
Anyway, I think it may have been like this for most of the time the multiplayer auth servers were down.
First, can anyone else confirm whether or not the Premium modules are free play for them as well? I don't think I'm just playing demo mode on these modules. In fact, I never saw anything to indicate there really was a "demo mode" on them, just a series of screenshots and stirring music if you hadn't paid for them but tried to load up one anyway.
Second, if they
don't work for you, did you ever buy any of the Premium modules and tie them to your CDKEY?
Anyone know what the deal is?
My apologies if this is an Epic Discovery Fail of some sort, I waited a few days between playings to see if the authentication persists and it does. At least for me.I downloaded the ones I used from
this forum thread (it's stickied at the top of the forum) and the installers are definitely legit and from BioWare, the same ones that were always used to install.
