Rogue Dual Weapon... What Weapons?
« on: May 10, 2011, 11:41:11 pm »

               Hey

I want to build a dual wielding Rouge Assassin SD but I can't decide what to dual wield.

I once read on another nwn forum a post by a guy named Cinnabar Din which said that Maces are always a good way to go, but I'm still not too sure.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Rapier and Short Sword, Mace, Kurki, and Kama, the last two require the exotic weapon proficiency.

*grinning*.. you should never mention CIn and spell rogue that way. His sig used to be "It's rogue dammit, ROGUE"

But for rogue assassin, I'd say 2 x short sword or kukri (which costs an extra feat). Two of the same type means less feat costs so I'd keep rapier/sht swd for a CoT (or many ftr)/rog build.. Keeping a pair of maces for dealing with crit immune enemies is certainly a good idea, but unless you're playing an undead heavy module, you can cope.

Have fun '<img'>

I believe handaxe is also viable, and they have a higher threat rnage (ie; x3), I believe. Plus they act as a Slashing weapon, which may be enhanced with Keen effect spells & scrolls; a nice bonus at times.

Assuming dex based, I would pick Rapier. It has the best critical range/damage for a finesse weapons and doesn't require exotic.

Simply use whatever the best small finesse weapon you find in your off hand.

You aren't married to your weapon like Weapon Master. Pick your favorite, Weapon focus/Imp Crit  are nice, but shouldn't stop you from simply using the best weapons you find.

It depends on your race.  Halfling Rogues should be dual wielding daggers.  Human, I would go with 2 weapons with 2 different types of damage.  Short Sword & Dagger works.  Cinn liked maces because it is rare you see a creature with resistance to bludgeoning.

I've usually played rogues with the swiss army knife philosophy. Keep the best finesse weapons and equip for enemy weaknesses or tactical needs.

That is my philosphy as well.  Only Weapon Masters are truly married to their weapons, specialized fighters are semi-monagamous. '<img'>

I played through SoU with Rogue/Fighter/Paladin, I specialized in Greatsword(my favorite weapon in the game), but essentially never used one in the module since better weapons were always other types.

Without specialization, I would still choose a weapon to apply Weapon Focus/Imp Crit, but I would simply use the best weapons I find... Keeping a blunt to break down skeletal creatures.

Weapon Specialization is one place where NWN really suffers. You have an explosion of weapon types and, outside of HotU, limited abilities to get a good weapon of the desired type. For rogue/fighters, you're trading a cumulative d6 sneak attack bonus for a flat +2 via weapon spec., and you can often match or beat that just by equipping a better weapon for the monster type you're facing. Dual wield is expensive enough.

I usually play halfling rogues, my preferred combo is short sword + dagger but I switch the first with a mace when I deal with undead.

               Kukris.

It's not all that unique of a choice, but is slashing, finessable (if you decide to go Dex), unpenalized for any DWing size class and one of the highest crit ranges even without multi with WM... plus one of the very best DevCrit DW weapons (if you are planning a Str build).

Without multi with fighter, it is next to impossible to develop two different weapon types equally.

Kukris are good enough for Tomi so it's good enough for me.  He's been thieving longer than I have. '<img'>
