Yeah, no voting is a good solution... unless of course you want your content to climb the mountain of Hall of Fame entry consideration, in which case you need votes.

We were in the top 10 (up to 7th place at one point I believe) before the vault attacks occurred. I don't think there is any chance of the people at the vault fixing the issue, despite it being one bad player doing the trolling. At some point it becomes better to cut the losses.                I had the same problems with my own entry on the vault. When my younger brothers started to attack my community on all fronts because we had kicked them out for cheating and picking fights, Beyond the Pale told me that he wouldn't remove their comments because everyone has the right to say what they want to say. In the end, I asked that my server entry be removed from the vault.

It is difficult to remove one vote that has what we consider valid reasons. If a vote contains a reasonable opinion and an insult, we will remove the insult and let the opinion stand.

We strive to remove spam and obvious attacks by a repeat offender. There are certain ways to ascertain whether a post is by the same person or group, but no system is perfect.

Spam has become a way of life in the online age. Your e-mail, your phone, your website, etc. We try to remove it as we see it or as it is pointed out. If you want spam removed from your Vault diet, please let us know where it is and we will do our best to escort it to the door.

Sorry, BTP, but I have to disagree. Jen tried working along with those on the vault and it got us nowhere. All you guys did was remove a sentence bashing lesbians and some other sexist comments, leaving the remainder of the spam there (and the score of 1). The player was obviously the same one causing us issues a long time ago (we were even able to point out a blog with the same name used where he was trolling us) and nothing was done. We've lost a lot of faith in the vault since then and I believe for good reason.

The player continued to attack us after under a few different user names and again, nothing was done when it was brought up. We've pretty much given up suffice to say.

Well Aleron... his behavior is probably not right, but I think that he got right for his vote of 1. His reasons for such low vote may not be valid from your point of view but he probably has some.

Of course only once, if he is making new account to vote again, thats against vault rules for sure. If he don't spam various vault entries with vote of 1 I see no rules violation.

And btw even a vote of 1.0 can bring you into HoW.

We had a very very bitter break up with a former server and TSM was split into two because of it. We were trolled, attacked and even at one point were accussed of making google search point to our forums instead of thiers. (Which if I could do that I would make everything nwn releated go there first, 'Posted)

I understand your frustration Aleron but BTP and the vault have always in good faith done thier best and I commend them for that. I may not agree with somethings they do but then again they are doing a pretty darn good job.

The Top Ten list really means very little. There is several dead servers on there atm so honestly concentrating on just being visible is more important than being on such a list. We were there and for a minute I felt a lot of pride till it was pointed out to me that one of the servers on there had 33 top ten votes while in Beta...

Kinda put things in perspective that while the voting proccess is easily duped it is better just ignoring the voting and allowing the comments to come through and shine a postive spotlight on your own server. *shrugs*

Besides as long as YOU know your server is good to YOU then who really gives a rats arse what some joe shmo says who is all bent because he does not get to play there anymore?

I had a SPAM response for one of my submissions a few days ago, pointed it out to BeyondThePale and it was deleted the next day.  Thanks to BTP and the rest of the Vault crew.

I think every company and web developer in the world would want a chat with you then.

I've had a whole bunch of spam on my vault pages lately, mostly just monolithic blocks of random text with rather suspicious links, but they've usually been dealt with pretty efficiently by the vault staff, so no complaints there. The rare occurrances of obvious trolling have always taken longer, but really we can't expect BTP to just delete posts without investigating properly first, as simply deleting a problem post may just result in the poster creating a new account to troll with.

Though in the World Serpent Inn's case, I have to wonder if pages like this are contributing to the problem. Whether they were created by staff or by the spammers themselves (I'm assuming the latter), it'd be more than a little irresponsible not to do something about the issue. Though obviously you might not have been aware of it yet, in which case I apologize if it appears I'm suggesting otherwise.

I got an e-mail from worldserpentinn on 1/8/10 regarding a problem post that had sexist comments from HERP . The comment/vote/post was removed. I sent an e-mail to that effect but had it bounce back to me.

As I acted upon the request 8 hours and 27 minutes later, with what I feel were desired results, it seemed all was well. Later requests got responses in a similar timeframe, but the low votes did not demonstrate criteria we set for trolling/spamming. Low votes are a risk you run when you open yourself to criticism by allowing voting. I have to say a rating of 9.89 out of 10 with over 50 votes shows what the majority of voters felt about your world. Let's face it, you're never going to make everyone happy.

Bottom line folks, if I am not told about it and am not habitually watching your entry (out of thousands and thousands of entries) then you need to speak up when you have a problem. Continued communication with community members (as recently as today) continues to help us weed out problem elements in our community.

Our problem was that we'd go weeks to months without a review, then get 3-5 poor reviews in the same few days saying the same complaints... right after banning this guy, and then on his ban anniversary. Not hard to figure out what's going on there. I don't feel that someone who's posting about hating the server because it has lesbian players is giving a fair review, and is clearly just around to cause problems due to personal issues. I don't want to argue about it further on a public forum though.

Edit: One of our DMs is talking to the Vault team about the problem. Seems it's more obvious to them that he's a nutter after showing the blog he started just to talk badly about us and our players.

Talking about spam, this entry bears spambot's advertisement.
