Help with CEP
« on: December 15, 2010, 12:59:00 am »

I have a rare opportunity to finally get the CEP content and I am hoping you folks can help steer me in the right direction.  The link to the CEP FAQ page won't load for me and neither will the Official CEP site, yet I need some questions answered so that I don't miss this unique chance.

First question
Will all CEP content run with CEP 2.3 or must I DL other versions as well to play content that was not designed with 2.3?

Number two
I am confused with all the CEP patches listed in the Vault.  Will I need any of these?

The last one
Other than CEP 2.3 (unless I need previous versions for some reason), are there any other CEP add-ins (like custom music , for example) that are required or useful beyond that listed on the CEP page?  (Not referring to the PRC which is beyond my means at the moment.)

I may not get another chance to con a dear friend into burning a DVD for me so am depending on the community to provide the real skinny about this stuff.

As usual, mucho appreciation for any assistance you can provide. '<img'>

What are you trying to do? Are your questions about making a module or just playing?

2,1, 2,2 and 2,3 for sure. In that very order but you would have guessed that.
2,0 just in case? But you're a huge reader and I believe you know a bit more of english than I, so you'll figure it out. I never read those things, I just happen to know. Through you for instance.
I have all of them installed, from older to later (1,53? to 2,3)
No conflict ever.
There is already a (stable) update to 2,3, some 2,3b somewhere.
Would that be of any help if I upload a CEP package onto my site for a short time for you to have a stable download, or are you having some difficulties with internet connections in that tipi of yours?
Just ask away.
I'm so used to see you helping than today my world is all upside down...
It's almost scary.
You know I'm no tech, but I know a few around here who are.

Did I tell you I'm really impressed with you deciding to make a step towards the future finally!
I can't wait until you upgrade yourself to Tony K!
Today, I know impossible isn't human anymore.
We finally breached into your last line of defense... ':alien:'
Let's celebrate!
I don't even know how to burn a CD-DVD but would one of those small hard-drive pieces would do?
As I said, just ask.
Now I have to take some rest, those news were such a shock...

If you want to play any module using the CEP, you'll need two versions : the latest CEP 1.68 (which can run any CEP 1.x module) and the latest CEP 2.3 (which can run any CEP 2.x module). Of course they can be installed side by side without any problem.

For the latest CEP 2.3 : nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php
(from: nwvault.ign.com/View.php )

For the latest CEP 1.68 : nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php
(from nwvault.ign.com/View.php )

That is exactly what I needed to know!  At this point, it is just from a player's viewpoint but eventually would like access to do some creative work using the CEP resources (re: SuperFly).  So thanks for the links.  I'm sure others in a similar situation will appreciate the road map. '<img'>

@jml: just for the record, it's not my neverending search for innovation that has brought this to the fore for me, but rather the constant brow-beating of my nephews who have on the sudden become bored with their LAN playing.  But it's more the willingness of a close friend to assist in obtaining a huge download (probably as a holiday gift to me) that makes it at all feasible.  I don't want to miss my chance since DLing anything more than about 100mB with this connection is an exercise in futility.

Thanks to all for the guidance!

edit: One really, final question on this topic:  When the CEP is updated, are these also equally-humongous downloads like the CEP packages themselves?

The CEP 1.68 won't be updated any more. The CEP 2.3 is supplied with an auto-updater that should only download what is new or updated.
