Hello there
« on: November 23, 2010, 11:56:32 am »

Hello people '<img'> i recently quit WoW and was looking for an alternative to it. then i discovered Baldurs gateand NWN. so i couldnt help myself after watching gamplay and Here i am i had to buy them all.

I don't know anything about D&D really so i get a little confused on why i miss constantly
im also confused on what class and build to choose. all these feats and skills its so confusing sometimes.

I love playing a rogue  but using Bows normally '<img'>

Is there somewhere i can go to learn all about this because i am really enjoying the game (still on chapter 1) but would love to know more about it and how to play properly.

i heard it was better online aswell but im thinking maybe i should play the game more before going online hey?

cheers people

               Welcome aboard, Lostvoices!

"Online" is the true NWN to me, brain among brains, skin next to skins. (Actually? Scartch that last part...)
The best proof? I never got the guts to do it myself. ':crying:'
'meaning, just go there when ever you feel you wanna do it. You'll never be ready anyway.
(I'm also trying to convince myself, here... '<img'>)

Still, I am enjoying my shameful single player career very much! So many of free community modules around. And good ones as well.
Now, to answer your most important question, the only "proper way" I know of playing NWN is:
mine.
Which means yours, for you.
Enjoy yourself. Through everybody else.

               Hello '<img'>

NWNwiki is the place with the most up to date info.

As for archer rogues, here follows a very rough guide on what to start reading up on:

FEATS: PBS, Rapid shot, called shot are the archers friends as well as the usual WF and Imp crit

EPIC FEATS: Epic dodge, epic prowess  EWS  Armour skin , Great Dex

SKILLS: Lots of them depending on playstyle and build but rogues get UMD which is huge '<img'>

MULTIclassING: SD, AA, Assassin, Fighter (for access to weapon speciaslisation and better BAB which can give you more APR. Better look at multiclass penalty too as depending on race and class choice, you can be penalised in XP (tho personally I don't care about this one. More fun to play what you want IMHO, but YMMV).

Have fun '<img'>

Rogues are very good choices for single player due to their skills and combat abilities (though similar to WoW, having a good tank in your party will make it easier to do the best damage with your sneak attacks a la backstabbing). When splashed (combined with other classes to a lesser degree) with more combat oriented classes (Rogue is a 3/4 BAB class, meaning they are less effective at hitting targets than the so-called Main classes). Good splashes for Rogues are Fighter (for bonus combat feats), Paladin (for fear immunity and saving throw bonuses), Champion of Torm (for saving throw bonuses without having to invest in charisma--though this bonus is combined with your item-based bonuses that are subject to a +20 cap), Ranger (for dual-wield feats), or Weapon Master (for expanded Critical Hit capabilities).

Though I almost exclusively play Arcane Archers, Rogue comes in at a close second--my current Rogue build is a 35/4/1 Rogue/Paladin/Monk that uses monk weapons (on our server this includes Nunchaku, but in vanilla NWN you would be limited to fists or kamas without modifications) to obtain the maximum number of attacks (you need 4 levels in one of the aforementioned Main classes before level 20 in order to have 4 base attacks per round, if the rest of your levels are using a 3/4 BAB class.

Since you like using Bows though, you could try a Rogue-based Arcane Archer (26/13/1 AA/Rogue/Wiz), which combines the bow-based combat prowess of the AA with the skill base and defensive abilities of a Rogue (particularly the ability to take epic dodge to avoid the first attack that would have hit you in a given round).

There is definitely a lot of material to absorb in order to get the most out of building an effective character, even offline. When you get into the online world, you may find that level of detail multiplied depending on where you play. For example, we have made a multitude of changes to both Rogues and Arcane Archers, but we have a great deal of resources and people to help people process all the information to get the most out of their play experience.

Welcome to the game, hope you enjoy it (especially the not having to pay any more money part of it)!

Yeah...get on online directly and play on any of the servers!

That is probably the part that is the most like WoW....but better....as you will notice.

Hop on the roleplay servers if you want a harder and probably longer way. Sometimes roleplaying can be overhelming...but the level varies from server to server and player to player.

Action server could be easier to understand at first. Also you will usually have a feeling of acomplished something easier.

If you get Xfire that will help also to monitor and join servers.

The server browser inside the game is also very good.

If you do get Xfire don't forget to add me there....my username there is superfly2000.

Going on 3 weeks vacvation now but I'll be back...

They are fun *grin*

The paralysation from your Death Attack only works when your target is not aready in combat tho so even more than rogues, SD is a very helpful class to add. At lvl40, 23 assassin levels are enough for the DA paralysis to work so, A23/R13/SD4 , A23/R16/SD1 and A26/R13/SD1 are all very good builds. (You need R13 for epic dodge remember)

Have fun '<img'>
