Stealth build guide
« on: August 28, 2010, 09:06:07 am »

Hi. I am replaying the game after some years and i saw that the last update made some changes. Anyway, what build do you recomand for stealth with bows(/eventually switch weapons to maces for undeads). But primally with bow, open locks, listen, thiefing, move silently, hide (low charisma build, not really found it important for stealth characters) and so on. I'm playing the official campaign.

halfling rogue/assassin-optional/figher-for BAB and feats with shortbow but consider sling+shield better for ac.

1: rogue

2: fighter

3: rogue

4: fighter

5: rogue

6: rogue

7: fighter

to reach two attacks at level 7, until then make it anyway, one more fighter level may be good idea for bonus feat, no need more, if you do not like assassin you can add ranger (two weapon fighting for free) or monk (wisdom ac, good saves, speed)

The Arcane Assassin:  (AKA The Sniper)

(Elf  Race Required)
13 Rogue / 7 Wiz / 20 Arcane Archer

This build makes good use of Improved Invisibility for added protection, however, you don't really take wizard till level 10 & then only one level to obtain Arcane Archer, you will take the rest of your wizard levels after level 20, how ever many you desire to suit your taste...  Arcane Archers are a very powerful class, coupled with sneak attacks & magic, they become very fun to play...   '<img'>

This is a trade nwn secret, and i can loose my spot on the old, now extince ecb guild for even hinting that i suggested this, but charisma, outside a paladin build (for smite and saves) and sorc caster or heavy bard builds, charisma is BEST kept at 8 (or 6 whichever applies to your race).  I tend towards a min/max sort of game (meaning i have successfully played 8 Con characters) so take my advice for what its worth!  LOL  The thing is, with nwn, once you get the mechanics, the game isnt that challenging, and gimping your build by trying to have relatively high numbers in all the stats is foolishness at best and utter insanity at its worst.

Is the arcane archer available in the original NWN campaign? So, i noticed correctly (from any other rpg's, dnd based or not) : charisma, if not requiered by class, is unimportant, expecially for stelath builds. I started a ranger(archer)/rogue(planned) character (elf for dex +). 14 S, 18 D, 12 C, 14 W, 10 I, 8 C. Somehow assasin (dual W) doesn't fit my playing style. And wizard doesn't have the armor restriction?

Absolutely... ummm...  you are patched to v1.69, right? Figure on reaching about level 18 if you use a hench, perhaps another level via solo and scrubbing every possible XP opportunity.

Pick elf or half-elf, level until you reach BAB +6 and have at least one level of any arcane caster class (with the appropriate weapon focus, of course).

Cha is used typically for class synergies rather than to enhance skills like Dex does.  UMD & Taunt are 2 significant exceptions to that broad statement.  I don't know what stealth has to do with or without Cha involved.

And wizard doesn't have the armor restriction?

Huh?  Arcane failure presents a problem even with the proficiencies to wear heavier armor than robes or to use shields. Unless you like the out-of-combat armor flip-flop routine.

Not sure exactly what you are referring to here

EDIT: After reading Genisys' comments I realize I was assuming you had the Diamond version installed. My bad. To determine which Prestige classes are available with each expansion check here.  Apparently, only the Purple dragon prestige was added with v1.69. The rest were added with the expansions which can then be used in the OC.

If your interested in a good stealth build, obviously you want something that can handle himself in many different situations...

A Rogue / Wizard is more versatile than any other build...  (obviously you won't be using armor here)

A Rogue / Fighter is more or less an Assassin, since you use Dexterity as your main attribute, weapon finesse is a feat you will want right off the bat, and Rapier is an excellent weapon to finesse...
(Though there are strength builds for rogues, dex provides 2 things Better AC & AB, though less damage, however, sneak attacks make up for this...)

If you want to be able to hide in plain sight, you will need Shadow Dancer, though I'm unsure if you can select Prestige classes in the original campaign, I do know you can in Hordes of the Underdark..
