Is it worth starting playing this game?

Go ebay, or wherever you can go get the full pack with all the expansions for this game.  You won't regret it.  I've dabbled in so many games over the past 15 years, and NWN has kept me at the seat for more than few years at a time.  Single player is awesome and will provide many gaming hours; not to mention all the great modules that exist out there.  Finding a community without elitists will depend on where you go, but for the most part, you shouldn't be disappointed.

"but am I just gonna find a highly developed, highly skilled community with no room for newbie noobs who don't understand anything?"

No. Most players that are still around now are the dedicated mature bunch who are quite willing to help a noob out. At least, in the RP servers. I can't speak for the other categories.

Well, now that you mention it, in Arena it's mostly a bunch of screaming apes flinging poo. They're all about 13 emotionally and think being good at a video game is brag-worthy. It's sad X 2 because it's like making up your own game and then being proud of being better than other people at it.

Other categories, much better.

Please remember that this would actually be illegal. Since you have (apparently) a legal copy of vanilla NWN, I recommend updating it and playing it to see if the overall gameplay is to your liking. If so, I think the best approach is to purchase one or both expansions through legal means. It's only fair to the developers that if you like the game, you don't use cracked copies. If you end up buying new copies, you'd even be supporting the development of BioWare's new games financially.

As an old dog in the computer game hobby (anyone remember the original Strategic Conquest?) I can honestly say that NWN is the best value for money of any game I have ever played.  The fantastic community and the constant tweaking they give this old game keeps it fresh.  Take a look at some of the custom content done by Lord of Worms for example - stunning work that looks as good or better than more recent games.  Not bad for a game first released in the '90s.

And don't get me started on the possibilities of the toolset!

Yes by all means this is THE game to play (with all expansions). Evidence?

Note, the NWN1 forums are NEW here and look at all the activity! It is worth getting legitimate copies of the game (they are inexpensive, really, and found on amazon.com or egghead.com or ebay.com).

There is NO game like this one, none.

Be well. Game on.

I have to ask this stOOpid question... it's the best way to answer this question...

Would you ask a car saleman if the car he is trying to sell you is any good?

It's rather obvious your asking the wrong crowd, the wrong question, if we thought the game sucked we wouldn't be here, and that's really the bottom line...

Then again, if you play on the wrong server, or on a bad module for that matter, yes, the game would suck and not be worth playing, just make sure you test quite a few modules / servers before you come to a decision yourself, becuase nobody can answer that question but you..

I think it is definitely worth it. It's probably saved me several hundred, if not a couple thousand dollars on video games. I mean that seriously too, say on average I'd buy a new video game once a month ($50) for 5 years... that's $3,000. The only games I've bought since 2005 are Call of Duty 4 and rebought few older ones such as Warcraft III, Diablo 2, etc. Think a few $10 ones like Castle games or Civilization 3, etc.

Neverwinters nights is a cool game, but the community and NWvault and all of the modules make it like no other game I've ever seen or played. It's all about finding the right World for you, and NWN is more than capable of leading you to it.

NWN, all things considered, is the hands down, best game out there.

Yeah, NWN is worth it.  You can't get better value for your money, even if you paid what the game and expansions were going for when they were new.

Definately get the expansions and make sure you're getting legitimate and unused keys (might be a bit of a challenge at this point).
