Looking for particular builds
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:56:18 am »

               Hi guys,
I'm looking for some cream-of-the-crop builds that each meet a certain criteria, such as tank, archer, sneaker etc. Would really appreaciate ANY input, and links to builds from the bioboards would be a godsend.

The particular things I'm looking for:
- Tank with AC focus
- Tank with HP focus
- Archer
- Damage dealer/striker
- Sneaker/backstabber
- Spellcaster with Buff focus
- Spellcaster with fireball/implosion/IGMS/etc. focus
- Best all-rounder

Again, I would incredibly appreciate any advice or guidance.
Regards,
-PPP

Well, there are just soooo many builds to choose from. I would recommend some builds from grizzled_dwarflord and Cinnabar Din (two of the best epic char builders that also play on the excellent PW World of Greyhawk;--))

A couple builds that I'll recommend from that list:

Archer: The Bladed Archer by Cinnabar Din

http://nwn.bioware.c...249771&gid=8061

Sneaker/backstabber: The DeathStroke by grizzled_dwarflord

http://nwn.bioware.c...208029&gid=8061

Another really good link is pulsecap's character build search:

http://www.gustaver.se/nwn/

From there you should be able to find good builds for the rest.

The boss, Anuis has preserved all the Epic Character guild builds (not the bioware one, but the REAL one!).  I am not sure if he will put them up, as we havent decided.

Just to answer your questions: CLERIC!  (yes, I AM BACK '<img'>  )

The trouble with AC and HP focused tanks is, they generally suck when it comes to hitting ability and damage output.  The more you focus on defense (which is what HP and AC focus is, imo) the more you rely on party members to kill for you.  While it is a strategy, i personally would never rely on others for my survivability.  What do i mean?  Say you pump AC through the roof but your ab is in the toilet.  The fight would go on forever ad naseum.  Take high HP which means you sacrifice AB and long boring fight again.  In either case, its the dexer woodpecker syndrome all the same.

The best defense is AB.  THe more you hit, the more you damage, the less you are hit.  My math may be off, but who cares!  '<img'>

THe best buffer build is cleric.  The best all around is cleric26/bard4/rdd10.   Those are just my likings.  Hope that helps

Easy enough to get both AC and AB at the same time. The best way of doing that depends on environment which the OP hasn't specified. If decent finessable weapons are available, 12F/25WM/3Ro and 14F/7WM/19Ro can both do well.

Oh yes, ab and AC is easy to do with high dex finesser.  I was rushing and i meant to say your damage goes to the toilet!  Thanks for correcting me '<img'>   I thought i mentioned the wood ****** syndrome!  LOL  When you pump dex for AB, unlike DAO, you dont get damage increases.  If we had, then it would have been soo sweet '<img'>

The 19 rogue option makes up for this, as long as you can backstab, alas, you are still relying on back stab and crits to do the work.  IT certainly works best with a weapon with high magic, so you can make up for the shortfall.

I will ALWAYS talk in terms of mundane gear though.  That means, i will always refer to the options given a build or concept IF that character found NO magic gear at all.  See, in a high magic world, the dexer gets AB and AC boosts PLUS the wpn boosts, but the strengther gets ONLY AB boosts, DAMAGE boost AND the wpn, and the str build can typically (again build dependant, but who would go str build without Full plate and tower??) get full plate and tower and all the ac gear too.

It comes down to how you want to play and the environment.

Yeah, I'm not overly fussed about a tank who can't hit a wall :-) It is intended for team server, so having a tank purely to tank is what I'm looking for. But thanks for all the help! :-D

For a tank, have you looked into shifters? I've had lots of fun with a shifter/weapon master, but I believe shifter/dwarven defender can make a tough-as-nails character. As an example, the Juggernaut: Druid 7 / Shifter 11 / Dwarven Defender 22 ought to be able to withstand quite a beating. The idea is to combine the toughness of a defender with the immunities of a risen lord; it's a pretty resilient combo.

Edit: As a wise hipster ('<img'>) reminded me, there is always the potential danger of a risen lord being turned by clerics, so it's worth keeping in mind.

Right so this is for PvP. I suggest you post this request to your server's forum as PvP servers change a lot of things for "balance".

Risens aren't too hot in PvP, always expect the opposition to have at least 1 Cleric and if they can't turn you they'll Mass Heal you.
