GUI bug and "highlighted" menu
« on: January 17, 2016, 10:55:28 pm »

I have problem with interface in game and menu. The menu is constantly highlighted (like when you click when selecting options e.t.c) and interface when playing become transparent. I will show this on screenshots below. Also some video options are "un-clickable".

More interesting part is that the game had worked properly earlier and this bug happened to me few times but only after 2 or more weeks after instalation (so I just uninstall it and install again for some time). However now this bugs shows up instantly after installation. I've tried running game after clean installation without patches, I've tried running game with all the patches, critical rebuild and community patch 1.70, 1.71, I've installed hundreds of modules, mods and other stuff and I've tried to run the game without even one mod, I've tried install the game in my custom installation folder and in the way shown on this forum (Windows 7 installation), I've tried running it as an administrator with compatibility mode for windows xp servce pack - nothing helped, this extremely annoying GUI disappearances and highlighted menu drives me crazy. I have Diamond Edition of the game from GOG.

Notebook Samsung NP550P7C, Windows 7, 6 GB RAM, up-to-date drivers, graphics card GeForce GT 650M.

Also all visual effects and creature animations (in creature properties/viewer) in the toolset are extremely speed up. I don't have to add that all of these bugs occurs simultaneously, I've never seen a single one on it's own, only all at once.

A little more information is needed in order to try to help here. Re. your copy of NwN -

  • Is it for Windows, Mac or Linux?

  • What expansions have you got - NwN, NwN + SoU, NwN + SoU + HotU?

  • If Windows, did you buy it from GOG?

  • What Language version is it?

  • What hardware is it running on?

If it is for Windows, is in English and you bought it from GOG the very first thing to try is the English 1.69 Critical rebuild for game with both expansions only as, in spite of what GOG says, there are things missing from their version.

Hope this is of use.

You try setting DisableSound=1 in nwn.ini?  If integrated sound, can cause render problem sometime so test like this maybe help.

What version DirectX you running?

BTW i have the same issue (or at least the transparent GUI, didnt noticed the highlights) on my laptop.

Win 10, Intel Celeron N2920 with integrated graphic from Intel.

Btw Tarot, it doesnt matter where you bought it, or whether you have expansions. And from his screenshots its clear he has both expansions. Once you run english 1.69 critical rebuild you got the vanilla game 1.69.

Same here on intel atom z3775 win 8.1. No issues on laptops with dedicated gpus. OP, try to set your gpu to high performance for nwn in nvidia settings to avoid optimus defaulting to intel-gpu.

Sadly i know no solution for integrated intel gpus if this is the only gpu you have. Tuning the camera umtil you find an angle that works is what i do

Game is for windows, I have both expansions, game is form GOG, language version is english, I'm running it on laptop Samsung NP550P7C and DirectX 11.

I set "DisableSound" to 1 and it worked! I've also turned this option again to value 0 to check if the highlights and transparent GUI will show up again but everything is working fine for now. I'm sure that this bugs will show up eventually (with sound on), so now if we know what couse the problems is there any way to solve this without disabling sound in nwn.ini?

This talked about lots on old Bio boards but no one ever figure out how to make up for integrate sound.  Any way you can stick in cheap sound card?  Donna need to be any special, just to get data calls away from motherboard.

Ummm... maybe try DirectX 10.  I read that 11 have some problems with NWN.  Not sure if this help your problem but if does work, then save time opening case up to fool with new hardware.  In some tech topic around here they tell how to run more than one version DirectX on same machine but I donna remember where it was or how done.

Though Microsoft tells us that DX11 is downward compatible with older versions, for nwn that's not completly true. NWN needs two or three DX9c dlls, but I'm not sure which ones. Just install DX9c alongside with DX11, that should word just fine.

Greetings

disable environment mapping on creatures in advanced video options

and if not working try disabling enable environment shadows in video options

new and updated drivers of the video card can be the cause of the problems you have, try using older drivers (for nvidia 332.21 is the perfect one for nwn).

My notebook is similar of you.

OS: Windows 10 Pro

integrated video card, or more specifically intel video drivers.
