Quick Question:TGA -> DDS
« on: September 03, 2013, 10:29:59 pm »

               i'm trying to pack parts f my override folder into patch hak.
so i ran into this quick question:
iirc hak packs require dds files, when overwriting vanilla textures.
do they require them for non overwrite textures?
and are the TGA textures still needed in the hak file, if i have the dds files (i'm using the bioware dds compression tool)

               dds files are need in haks if overwriting existing vanilla textures.

dds textures are not required if simply adding new textures.

tga textures are not needed for models in a hak, which is good because dds textures make for smaller files.

tga textures are needed in haks for things like inventory icons, because the toolset doesn't display dds icons (though the game does).  This really came into play for be for my Project Reforged weapon icons...the hak version requires dds icons (to overwrite the default icons) and tga icons (so that the new icons show up in the toolset).

Hope this helps.

               this helps tremendously. thank you very much.

so for creature overwrites, i should convert everything to dds and delete the tgas before putting everything into hak format.

and for your reforged project, i better leave both file versions inside the hak, to get the new inventory icons. or would that only be to display them in the toolset inventories (about which i couldn't care less ^^). and for pure ingame use, i could delete the tgas as well?

edit: ok, they appear ingame in inventories without the tgas.
