Joining Friend's Server -- "Cannot Verify Player Password"
« on: June 28, 2013, 04:31:10 am »

               Hello friends,

So a friend and I bought Neverwinter Nights recently with the intent on playing coop. We encountered many a wall impeding our way with many successes in shambling them down. But this wall we have encountered seems rather impenetrable.

"Cannot verify player password."

We have failed endlessly in discovering sufferers akin to us and the trial-and-error attempts in amending this damning issue have left us hopeless. We used basic internet connecting and even Hamachi for LAN -- no avail. We implemented no passwords for our servers and then some, and the bloody game keeps telling us that our actions cannot verify it. Bother this pathetic nonsense!

Heed our call! What can we do to play this damned game as true friends?!

You're playing coop with the Official Campaign, and not some stand-alone PW?

FP!

I am assuming it can't verify it, because the bioware server which used to have that password was shut down a couple of years ago. ( could be wrong here, but that is what i am guessing you are describing )

Solutions to that assumption:
  • Ignore it, the login and password can't function anymore
  • NWNCX which suppresses it
  • Come up with a secret challenge and password, and when your friends enter, challenge them and either kill them or join them based on their ability to answer.

I think you don't understand our predicament.

You see, everyime my buddy and I try to direct connect with each other, it always says the "player password cannot be verified", even when there's no password for our servers. We bought our copies from GOG(good old games).com, updated our CDkeys, forewarded our ports, and everything else. It seems as though this problem of ours is rather unknown as we could find nothing on it.

               When do you see it

1. When you first hit multiplayer you should see a login.

2. Then it says it can't do it. ( this is what i am thinking you mean )

3. Then is the Join Lan Game

4. Then you pick the game

5. Then you select a character or create one, etc.

6. Then you are in the game itself.

When I hit direct connect, type the IP and the password, and click "OK/accept/connect", it pops up a screen with the very error.

You have not explained your predicament very well.

How are you setting up the multiplayer?
Are you playing on the same LAN or is your friend logging in through the internet?

We both used Hamachi on the same network, so yes we're on the same LAN (technically).

We both tried hosting and joining each other's servers.

We also tried internet direct connect.

Both LAN and internet leads to the same thing; however, we could join other servers for some odd reason.

The error, by quote, is

"The game server that you are connecting to was unable to verify your
password. The game server has opted to not allow players to join unless
their password can be verified. Please try again later."

Have you tried only one server, i.e. one of you hosting the game and the other one joining it? From your description, it seems to me that on both your computers nwserver binary is running at the same time. I'm not sure that wold work.

I'm not sure about using a VPN to play, either. If you are not on phisically on the same LAN, then one of you should start multiplayer as server and posting that server to the Internet. Then, direct connect should work.

VPN, if it works at all, would not be an Internet, but a LAN game.

Greetings
Skildron

Since we are rather new to this, I don't understand what "nwserver binary" is.

It sounds like you server is set to force authentication during master server down times.

under server options in   nwnplayer.ini on the computer that is hosting the server make sure that both of the following lines are set to 0

Master Server Authentication Required For Player Login=0
Account validation required during Master Server down times=0
