[Solved] NWN 1.69 Linux Install Not Allowing Network Play
« on: April 20, 2013, 05:29:16 am »

               Any time I run ./nwnmain +connect [IP]:[PORT] I get a Ding sound and the
main menu.

I look at the sockets created and nothing.  Now if I try to
use in the game Multiplayer menus I see connections built for the game
spy stuff, but no other connections built.  Not even the Master Server.

NOTE: I know I can't connect to the Master Server and I can't connect to Game Spy.  I should still see a connection built for the timeout operations.  I see nothing but the Game Spy ports.

Distro: CrunchBang 11 Waldorf (Debian Wheezy)
Kernel: 3.2.0-4-amd64
Multi Arch: Enabled
32bit Libs: Yes
SDL: 1.2.15-5
(Even tried adding sdl-net 1.2.8-2 but no help)

Just wondering why I can't get this thing to make connections.
Thought:  To enable sound I have to use the "miles" directory contense from the 1.29 Client.  There isn't anything in miles network related is there?

I can dig into the Libraries and Debug the network stack, but I really don't have time to right now.  I hope someone else has seen someting that might help before.

Thanks,
''

IIRC the linux client does not allow direct connect via command line parameters, but I may be wrong. I never used this, and a quick test just now did not work for me, either.

Ok I am now searching for the proper way to do online play with Linux.  Do I need the GameSpy Emulation software... NWNXC was it?  I'll look, but open to any pointers any one has.  If not I will dig into it once I have the time.

If I let the ingame menus time out I can use the multiplayer menus to connect to Lan Games as root.  So I might have a settings/security hardening issue that I am not seeing stoping me from online play.  I also confirmed my firewall does not ever see the request leave my system for the internet servers.

:-) Fun stuff.

               Remove my Geek status. LOL

I watched the process from start all the way till I saw the protocol UDP.  Suddenly it dawned on me, I was debugging TCP the whole time.  Losened up the UDP rules and it works.

Sorry LOL

Nevermind. Could happen to anyone ;-)

So - does direct connect from the command line work with the Linux client?

Not for me, I have to use Direct Connect in the Multiplayer menus.  The servers are then added to History.  And I can connect.

Command Line is not letting me directly connect.  ''
