Can't run NWN at 120Hz refresh rate!
« on: February 27, 2013, 08:21:07 pm »

I have the GOG version of NWN patched to 1.69, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to run at 120Hz refresh rate on my Samsung LED 1920X1080 monitor (which is 120Hz, btw).  60Hz is too choppy, and disabling vsync causes ugly tearing. I see the options for 1920X1080 at 120Hz in the Video settings in NWN, but it won't retain it when I select it.  Seems stuck at 60Hz on all resolutions close to 1920X1024. Also, in order to enable vsync I have to go into Video options, deselect it, then tick it again to get it to stick. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers (314.07).  Any help?

It's probably too fast for OpenGL rendering.  Can you change the screen resolution to a smaller size?  Generally, you can run through all the available graphic resolution permutations using the configuration utility that came with the game.  Have you tried several already? In any event, the ini must contain the values you prefer else the game will reset them that way for each new session.

Just for comparison's sake, I use a standard samsung synch 955df running at either 75 or 85 and with 96 DPI without any issues. Pretty pedestrian really, but the game renders beautifully.

It could be a driver setting, but I can't help with that as an ATI owner.

Maybe mention nvidia and/or LED graphics in the topic title to attract eyes of similar hardware config owners.

Do you have a dual link DVI cable or a HDMI 1.4 spec. cable plugged in?

Yes, I've tried several resolutions and anything at 1680X1050 or above will not allow 120Hz in fullscreen to stick (windowed works at 120 Hz but I prefer fullscreen for extra smoothness and being able able to turn camera by scrolling to ege of the screen). As for the vsync not sticking, I've resorted to forcing it through Nvidia's driver app so I don't have to continue doing it manually each session.

Yes, I believe I'm using a dual link DVI cable connecting my Samsung S23A700D Monitor to my MSI Geforce GTX660 Ti video card.  Could that be the problem?  Monitor also has HDMI inputs.  Would switching over to an HDMI 2.0 cable correct the issue?  Of all the games I've played over the years, NWN 1 with user-made modules has given me the most enjoyment so I'm willing to take extra steps to troubleshoot this.
