Anyone tried NWN on Windows 8 yet?
« on: October 30, 2012, 11:05:18 am »

Installing NWN on Windows 7 was a bit of a headache. Since I've been building modules, wether NWN is compatible and easy for win 8 will be a big determining factor wether or not I get win 8 yet. Has anyone tried it yet? Does the toolset work OK with it?

I installed on my Dell E6410 without a problem. And while I can play the game, the video driver needs some serious updating. I just have video set to bare minimum and the toolset will not render the '3D preview window'. At this time I haven't had a chance to play around with it much though.

I think I'm running into the same issue as Thayan. I may have missed the documentation somewhere, but is Win8 a severe memory hog? I was fluid as can be on the highest res with Win7 and then Win8 slows me to almost a complete stop.

Windows 8 is actually less resource intensive than Windows 7. Here's an example if you want to read (installing on a 1GB machine) - http://www.tomshardw...win8,13423.html

I think the problem is with the video driver itself. I still haven't had a chance to mess around with it more - but if you check the manufacturer's site, see if there is anything specific to Windows 8 you can update it to.

NWN and the Toolset working fine in Compatibility Mode for XP SP3 on Windows 8 for me. When I upgraded, I preserved all my programs and settings so maybe that's the difference?

On the other hand 3DS Max 7 is having some issues. Everything seems to run fine until I exit the program, at which point it crashes. Not sure what the issue is there. As far as other games and apps are concerned, EVERYTHING runs really smooth - graphics maxed out on just about everything.and my fps is much better.

My system specs - just for reference:

i3 Intel CPU 550 3.20 GHz
Win 8 Pro 64-Bit
6 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce GT 240 (1 GB VRAM - running the latest drivers)

Got it to work finally after modifying compatibility, adding memory, adding a new video card, and the eventual reboot. Now I just have to get Kingmaker to run without a CD Key as they didn't supply one with the documentation.

OK, it seems it is somehow working now. I messed with a Kingmaker installer file I found and I was able to see all 3 Premium modules' intros load. I hope that these are not demos. It makes no sense for Atari to include these on the NWNC software as assumed compete premium modules and then have to jump through impossible hoops to find CD keys or just settle for demos.

It gives the CD Key error when I try to run it on server. If it cannot be run as such, so be it.
