Fading Menus and Movies working creeply
« on: April 22, 2012, 01:17:42 am »

Recently i've bought a new computer, a Dell laptop (Inspiron 15110/OS Win 7 64 bits). And after i did everything that i could find here in this forums, in the GoG foruns, in Windows 7 forums, in NWVAUlt everywhere...

The game is now working, but even though I am pissed off due to some minor issues that affect my gameplay experience. When there's some visual effects happening in the game the chat window begins to fade, like the menus of the game.

Plus the videos of the intro, OC, XP1 & 2 are somewhat laggy. What could I do?

I am only guessing, but what you are describing is symptomatic of integrated components.  Typically, they have a rough time dissipating heat efficiently and end up "cooking" when demand increases.  Is that sound card also integrated on the same board as the graphics chip?

Just out of curiosity... what other games do you play on your current machine and how is the performance with those?

HipMaestro, yes both are integrated... But I have ordered a USB 3D Sound card, and I really do hope that'll solve my problems.

I have not installed any other games yet, I wish I could make NWN run perfectly before anything.

IMO, anything Intel for video is loserville.  For less money, better graphics are available on laptops using AMD processors with a proper graphics function included.  Intel laptops are overpriced, and subject to meltdown.  They were never designed for gaming, really.  Intel doesn't care whether their video can play games.

Quite a silly question I suppose, but does changing your video/audio settings affect that transparency thing at all?

I just solved the fading menus problems by properly configuring my video card. Any ideas on how to make my movies run better? As they are showing many audiovisual glitches occur '<img'>

Edit nwn.ini and add "safemovie=1", if I recall! There was also a .dll file that replaced something in the NWN folder that helped with movie playback issues, but I can't remember where I saw it.

Rubies, I have already done both the things..

Yet my computer does not have an ATI Card the fixed .dll makes things better, but not as such as the gaming experience on Windows XP.

I know this is a super old thread, but does anyone know what settings are required to solve the faded menu issue?
