Can't Install Diamond
« on: January 04, 2012, 06:24:58 pm »

I recently acquired the Diamond version of Neverwinter Nights after being convinced to give it a try. However, I can not install it.

If I try to use Autoplay, the boxes I am told are supposed to say either Install or Exit are completely blank. Trying to click either of them anyways does nothing.

If I try to manually install the game from the disc with Setup, I get a "blank" error message. The bar says Information, the error box itself is blank save for a speech bubble with an exclamation point, and all I can do is click OK.

---------------------------

And here are some specs.

NWN Diamond
English
DVD
Windows XP Service Pack 3
AMD Processor
NVIDIA Graphics Card
Realtek Sound Card
CD-ROM is DVD/RW

Have you tried putting the disk into another computer to see if it gives you the same thing...I'm thinking it may be a bad disk.

               NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Would that really make it so I can't install period? Figure that would be more of a "I can't play." problem over an "I can't install." problem.

It amounts to about half of a seven year old Geforce 6200, but NWN is still older ~~ the Diamond edition has higher requirements than the plain Original Campaign, but they are pretty lenient in today's terms.  Have you tested using "period" drivers ~~ old ones?

Wow. They're that ancient? I knew they weren't exactly quality, but I've been able to play up to Fallout: New Vegas with the 6150SE. (Granted, on low quality settings.)

I'd be surprised if the graphics card was causing this but . . . Well . . . Most of my gaming is done on the console so I'm not really that experienced with tweaking things. How would I go about testing things out with "period" drivers?

Why put the disk in another computer?

Go here. http://www.oracle.co...oads/index.html

Get a free copy of VM virtualbox and dig up an old windows XP install disk or ISO if you have one.

GG, and to think I let Windows 7 own me for a little bit lol.

Yea, I had the same problem too. I just thought around it when I came here and read posts about scratches on disks and go buy something I already have..

So there you go! Get Virtualized!

now to see if it will actually run! '<img'> got to copy it from my virtuabox to my 7 box after I update it etc..
