Diamond Edition stops responding when I attempt to save the game
« on: November 27, 2011, 03:00:53 am »

I'm running Windows 7 via Boot Camp on a Macbook Pro, and the version of Neverwinter Nights is the Diamond Edition from GoG.com. The screen flickers on the main menu, but it goes away if I go into the advanced graphics options. The real issue I'm having is that the screen goes black whenever I try to save the game, and I get the typical 'The program has stopped responding' message afterwards. And no, the game does not successfully save.

I've tried running the game in Windows XP (service pack 3) compatibility mode, but it doesn't change anything.

               Already tried that. Doesn't work.

If you actually paid any attention, that answer doesn't indicate any such examination of what Selene wrote there.

I read through the installation instructions, installed directly to C: drive without desktop shortcuts, set both exe's to Windows XP compatibility, turned on full permissions, disabled UAC and changed nwnplayer.ini, so yes, I did read what that post said. There's no need to be so rude.

               GA wasn't being rude.

When you've seen this general kind of question I don't know... 25,732 times, like those of us still here after 10ish years, you try and push people towards the most likely fixes which are time tested and true more often than not.

The return attitude on the other hand, lessens the likelihood that people will clamour to the cause.

Okay, sorry. I was just saying that I tried the install method detailed on that thread.

I looked over it again and I guess I missed the part with the drivers. I'll try that tomorrow.

On the other hand it could be that there are issues special to Intel MACs with Win7 booted via boot camp. If it's not the driver giving you trouble the I would assume something along the MAC line. That may be undiscovered until now because formerly, the MAC users had their own version of the nwn client, which stopped working when Apple switched from PPC to Intel architecture, if I,m not mistaken.

Greetings

I installed a Microsoft Visual C++ update and it solved my problem. Thanks to all of you for offering your help.
