Try another nick??
« on: July 06, 2011, 03:47:30 am »

When i try to get servers, I get this thing that says "try another nick". I KNOW there are are other threads addressing this problem and i've tried to research it, but the search engine on this site isn't giving me any luck and all other links dump me on the Bioware homepage of course. All help's appreciated, I read it might have to do with my firewall status or something, maybe i should try to get rid of mcaffee? I'm afraid of screwing up my computer though.

I just dealt with this tonight.  The fix is that you need to go into your firewall and specifically allow nwmain.exe to make connections.  I'm using windows 7 but I'm sure it happens on vista and maybe xp in some circumstances.  I think it has to do with UDP being blocked or soemthing.  When you run nwmain.exe your firewall may pop up a message asking if you want to allow it.  Even if you do, you'll probably get the same "try another nick" error. Again, the fix is to specifically make a new outgoing rule for nwmain.exe
