The game wants more of Open GL than Radeons maintained after their X1n00 generation six years ago, and more than nVIDIA maintained after three years ago.  You can still find relatively old Geforces such as 9800 GTs, and GTS 250s to purchase new, but just don't use recent drivers with that age card, at least not for NWN1.

You can run NWN on newer cards. I use an nVidia GT 240 with 1 GB RAM. I've run it on 8500 GTs, 8600 GTs, and several other cards - I upgrade PCs just about every year. I have the latest drivers installed.

I have to disagree that any of those named are "newer", since the Geforce 8n00s are five years old, and the GT 240 is three years old (about as "new" as my information suggests is an easy card to adapt to such an old game).  I specifically wrote "three years" when thinking about being able to play the game right out of the box.

Newer from what's in the ReadMe you cited. Last time I checked 2006 and 2008 came AFTER 2002 chronologically. 'Posted

Pardon me for not being explicit enough. 'Posted

People are running 400 and 400 series nVidia cards with the openGL hack that is noted here in the technical forums.  Is it perfect, no, is it playable yes.  And makes other games work as well.

@Jenna, you can purchase any 9000 series or 200 series anywhere you want as long as you can find them available.

i.e. a quick search revealed Comp USA has a 9500GT for $67.99
and also a ZOTAC  9800GT for $64.99 with a mail-in rebate of $25.00 final price $39.99

Well if the old Video Card is a PCI-Express card, you shouldn't have a problem at all.

I think computers have me as favored enemy, ahah. So the new motherboard/on board graphics is making weird flickering lines across the screen, and if I install the old graphics card the whole system won't even turn on. I certainly have a way with electronics. Since it's two days old I'm just going to dump it on the repair team.

I actually built a computer right before Christmas time with that exact motherboard, with Win7, and it's been working splendidly.
Contrary to a post made above, AMD and Asus are top-notch hardware vendors. I've been using both for years and had little trouble with either.

Was this a computer someone built for you?

Do you know what power supply unit (PSU) you have in it?

Did you change the video settings in the BIOS before installing the add-in video card?

It was a custom build by comp usa. They have to fix it for a year so... back it goes. I'm reinstalling everything on the laptop with a new windows install, so I just don't have time to fuss over the desktop myself. I actually did a bit of reading on Asus and it was fairly well recommended. My laptop worked fine for a year and randomly windows decided it would never boot again. I blame bill gates, not Asus.                One thing that could be wrong is since the PC didn't include an add-in graphics card to begin with, they may not have put a power supply in that will support the extra load.
