[NWN Diamond] Black stripes dancing on the monitor

               What happens is: I turn on Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition, and the game would look normal and work normal if it weren't for numerous black stripes which take the entire width of every menu. It is like this during the game too. I've tried all the normal procedures like reinstalling, turning off the sound, etc., but to no avail... well, I did try to run the game at 256 colours (from the Properties of the nwmain.exe shortcut) and it solved the problem, but also became TRAGICALLY slow and choppy, so that's even worse. Any ideas as to what can cause that problem? The DVD looks fine, it hasn't been touched much ever since it was bought.

               You will have to experiment with drivers a great deal older than what you are using now.  NWN1 is an OpenGL game, not a Direct3D one, or not entirely.  

It is eight years old, and runs best with video cards no newer than about four or five years old, but if you can find an old enough driver, your card is almost old enough (it's basically a renamed 9800 GTX).

Is this posted information really correct?

It was my understanding that foreign language versions could only be patched to v1.68, so would be very interested to discover the v1.69 foreign language download page location.

I realize this may not be related to solving your problem (though I do second Gorath's suggestion to do some driver juggling to remedy the problem) but still would be important information for many of our community if it exists.

               The international language versions can indeed only be updated to 1.68 (officially, at least). But there is a trick to patch them up to 1.69.

Replace the international version of dialog.tlk with the english version from 1.68, then apply the 1.69 critical rebuild patch (in my case, a year ago, even the normal update procedure worked), afterwards, replace the dialog.tlk with the international one. On nwvault, there is at least a german 1.69 dialog[f].tlk for download.

This should work for all languages.

               What Skildron said is correct about international language versions. Also, I managed to find a way to solve the problem which involved lots of shenanigans with installing drivers in a correct fashion and other things. Guess it can never be too easy as just installing everything, eh? '>
