A Few Minor Niggles With NWN1 on Windows 7
« on: March 18, 2011, 06:22:31 pm »

I've recently purchased a brand new pc running Windows 7 and have enjoyed NWN1 so much over the years that I desperately wanted it to be up and working on my new machine.

Following instuctions I've seen on this website, I've installed the game with both expansions and several modules and it appears to be working 99%. The few niggles I have include an inability to skip through the intro (pressing spacebar merely produces a bleep), and occasional sound and picture stutter through the intro. There was also another occasion where the game appeared to crash but immediately came back up, only for me to lose control of my character. The charater had got caught in the scenery, although this may be a red herring.

Has anybody else experienced similar issues? I have to admit I haven't checked by video and sound drivers, but then again, being a new pc, you would expect them to be up-to-date anyway. Please advise.''

My wife has a "newer" PC running WIN7, and she would sometimes experience the issue of not being able to skip through the intro movies with the space bar. However, her left mouse button seemed to work just fine for that during those times. We both eliminated the intro movies altogether by adding this line under the "Display Options" in the nwn.ini file. It's case sensitive so you may want to copy and paste it.

Disable Intro Movies=1

The stuttering through the intro movies sounds to me like your anit-virus program. Could also be causing the other issues. Try disabling your anti-virus program while running NWN.
